COMPETITION NOTES – PLEASE KEEP FOR YOUR INFORMATION

The Student Pentathlon run with the Yorkshire Pentathlon Region is aimed to be a fun and friendly competition, which offers the opportunity to have a go at Pentathlon after some training and instruction by the Yorkshire Region Coaches.

There will be both a team and individual competition. Individual awards will be to those with the highest combined score from all disciplines, with awards for the highest score in each discipline.

For the team competition, teams will be made up off five members from each university. Team members will be required to participate in a minimum of two disciplines, with the two top scores from each team averaged to provide the discipline contribution to the team score.

Competition Information:

The competition timetable, together with directions to the venue and all other relevant information will be emailed to the team contact – approximately 1 week before the event.

Cancellations, Withdrawals & Refunds:

By entering this competition you have agreed to the conditions of our withdrawal policy:

If your entry is not accepted then you will receive a full refund.

If the competition is cancelled for reasons within our control e.g. low number of entries, each athlete entered into that competition will be offered a full refund.

If the decision to cancel is made because of circumstances beyond the control of Pentathlon GB, e.g. adverse weather conditions or the strong possibility of adverse weather conditions, there will be no refund.

If your entry is accepted, no refund is possible for withdrawal for any reason, once the final closing date has passed.

Competition entries are not transferable.

An entry is only valid if:

Pentathlon GB membership is current and will cover the date of competition. It is the responsibility of the athlete to ensure current membership. Non-members cannot compete. First Steps members will be accepted.

Valid payment is enclosed with entry form.

Entry form arrives by the closing date.

COMPETITION DETAILS

Fencing:

Epée fencing in a pool unique. One hit in one minute. If neither fencer has scored a hit within the time limit, a double defeat will be recorded.

70% of bouts won scores 1,000 points.

Genders may be amalgamated.

Small pools may fight a two or three hit competition.

Each Competitor must have two working Epées & bodywires. Failure to meet this requirement will result in a penalty.

All competitors must be correctly dressed and protected in fencing kit at the following minimum standard:

Fencing Jacket - minimum 350N (CE level 1) in combination with Plastron FIE 800 Newton (CE level 2).

Fencing Breeches - minimum 350n (CE Level 1).

Mask - Bib 350N (CE Level 1). Transparent masks will not be allowed.

Female competitors must wear a chest protector made from a rigid material or metal.

No jewellery or any visible body piercings are permitted.

The Fencing Director and Fencing Referee have the authority to exclude and eliminate any competitor unable or unwilling to change into clothing that complies with the Rules.

Swim: Freestyle - 8 Lane, 25m Pool

All willswim 200m – a time of 2 mins 30 secs = 1,000 points ± 4 points per 1/3rd sec.

Any ‘performance swimwear’ must be on FINA’s published list of approved swimwear on the day of the competition.

Ride:

This will be an opportunity for athletes to gain their appropriate ride certificate for the BUCS competition in March.

Clothing & hats will be checked prior to mounting (as will whips and spurs if allowed by the horse owners).

Competitors must be correctly dressed in the competition arena at all times including when the horse draw is taking place and when walking the course otherwise a penalty may be incurred. Competitors may wear:

A black, blue or tweed Riding Jacket, shirt, tie or stock, breeches or jodhpurs, riding boots or jodhpur boots with matching chaps.

Wearing a correctly fitting back protector is strongly recommended but not compulsory.

Hair must be secured in such a way to not hang below the collar.

No jewellery or any visible body piercings are permitted.

All competitors must wear a protective hat with the chinstrap firmly fastened at all times while mounted – this includes during the warm-up. The Riding hat must conform to one of the following International Standards:

PAS 015:1998, EN1384:1996, EN1384:1997 – all of these need to have the BSI Kite mark.

AS/NZS3838:1998 & AS/NZS3838:2003 - both of these need to have the SEI Global label.

SNELL E2001 plus the E2001 Snell label.

Combined Run/Shoot:

The shooting phase will be organised in accordance with Youth B distances with knockdown target pellet shooting. There will be a handicap start, approx. 20m run; 3x (5 targets down (time limit 50”); 800m run); 10min 30 = 2000 points +/- 4 points per second.

We hope to use the outdoor range which means that the run will be conducted on a mixed surface; track, gravel, tarmac (spikes allowed). If the weather dictates that the combined run/shoot has to be conducted indoors, then flats/trainers only (no spikes will be allowed).
