Belmont Ridge PTO March General Meeting Minutes

March 18, 2014

The meeting was called to order by Erin McMahon at 9:15 a.m.

Tracy Bongianino made a motion to approve the December PTO meeting minutes, seconded by Erin McMahon. Minutes were approved.

President’s Report – Erin McMahon

*School supply kits will cost approximately $50 and would be placed in lockers before orientation. An email blast will be sent to parents with an online order form. Boxes will be pre-packed and labeled.

*Capital donation drive – fundraising to purchase technology for the school. Waiting to find out what LCPS budget will look like before notifying parents.

*Scholarship Committee – Karen Pettit is chairing and forms are out to Tuscarora and Stone Bridge High Schools. One student will be awarded.

Nominating Committee – Kristan Ash (Chair), Ruth Kapusta and Lisa Clippinger. Email blasts going out to Newton Lee, Steuart Weller and Seldens Landing PTAs. Current board is not returning. Slate must be complete by April meeting. Lunch planned for end of May to transition new officers.

*Bylaw change – Vote regarding Treasurer will be moved to the April meeting, which will be April 22nd due to Spring Break.

*6th Grade Family Night – 6:30 p.m. with a barbecue theme. May be a good time to try to recruit new officers. PTO may sponsor some raffles, including Belmont Extreme. Food will be from Costco. $500 from International Night plus $500 discretionary fund could be diverted with a vote.

*Per School Nurse’s request, Erin McMahon spent $100 on emergency clothing. Randi Deschamps made a motion to approve, seconded by Tracy Bongianino. Motion approved.

*Summer camp opportunities may be posted on the website without any endorsement from the PTO.

*BASAP – second session just finished, had to cancel 14 of the 26 classes due to lack of participation. There will not be a third session. Profit $10K short of budget.

Volunteer Report – Carol Suder

*In need of front office volunteers, who must have training, watch a video and sign a confidentiality agreement.

*Parents who are scheduled to volunteer and are unable to make it should request a swap with another volunteer instead of just canceling on SignUpGenius.

Hospitality Report – Tracy Bongianino

*March Teacher Appreciation lunch was from Urban Barbecue, as well as cupcakes.

*Still working on a theme for April.

*May – Cinco de Mayo theme. Outside, weather permitting. $2000 left in budget.

Ways and Means – Janet Prezio

Three Spirit Nights in April. 4-7 Kraze Burger, 4-10 – 4-12 5 Below, 4-23 Manhattan Pizza.

Diversity – Randi Deschamps

No International Night

Membership – Danielle Paschuck and Marianne Kasoff

*Membership drive for 6th Grade Orientation

*2 new members

Treasurer’s Report – Krista Darnell

*PTO $6000 ahead with membership

*Musical close to being sold out. Tickets close two hours before show. Four scholarships awarded. No figures yet.

SEAC – Brenda Lowery

*Meeting tonight at 7p.m. regarding IEP Compliance.

*County is taking nominations for a teacher who has made a difference with special needs students. Nominating form online.
