The Leistritz Pumpen GmbH at the SMM 2016 in Hamburg
Hamburg (September 2016) – On this year’s SMM 2016 in hall A2, stand A2.215 the Leistritz Pumpen GmbH will present their “Cargo Pump Systems” representing their extensive product portfolioof screw pumps and systems.
The worldwide largest range of screw pumps, well-engineered know how, durable and robust pumps as well as the comprehension for the customers and their specific needs for products in tough operation conditions in ship and maritime applications – that is, what Leistritz Pumpen GmbH has stood for as competent partner for decades.

„This year, we are going to present a special exhibit toour customers and visitors”, Johannes Döring, Branch Manager at Leistritz Pumpen GmbH explains.
“Comparing with standard industry applicationsin relatively constant ambient conditions, pumps in maritime ship applications at rough seasare influenced by quite different conditions. For example, Cargo Pumps on tankers are additionally exposed to difficult operating conditions. Highly diverse viscosities and temperatures of pumping fluids and loading products affect the selection of materials for pumps, as also their design and the execution of further parts of the pump aggregate. Requirements of ship owners, operators and supervising classifications societies have high requirements in terms of efficiency, low costs and environmental conditions and thus ask for nearly total resting of tanks and loaded products. Offloading Cargo Pumps therefore have to offer features such as high suction ability and robustness as well as high reliability, which often puts the pumps in the tough conditions of seagoing vessels to the test.Using our exhibit, we simulate these requirements on our booth at the SMM in a very illustrative presentation” according to Döring.
“TheAnti Cavitation Systemof our exhibit monitors upcoming vibrations on the pump, which normally come along with beginning cavitation conditions. Cavitation occurs when NPSH of the pump, which dependson viscosity, flow rate and axial speed, become greater than the NPSH of the system, which otherwise depends on suction pressure, suction speed and vapour pressure. Operating a pump in prolonged cavitation conditions is undesirable and causes significant vibration, noise and damages on pumps and other affected parts. At the time of increasing vibrations of more than a defined value and time, the Anti Cavitation Systems provides a signal to the automation system, whichdecreases the speed by a variable speed drive unit. When the operating speed of the pump and therefore also the axial speed of the fluid in the pump will be decreased, the NPSH of the pump will become smaller and cavitation and vibrations are stopped. Finally,by decreasing of the pumps operation speed in case of rising cavitation conditions, two positive effects will come up: On the one hand damages on pump and system will be avoided and on the other hand a proper resting process will be supported at the same time.
