The Leicester & Rutland Branch is featured in the latest edition of Countryside La Vie…

DRIVING in the lap of luxury raised £650 for a good cause at a dinner in Leicestershire attended by business secretary Vince Cable.

Oadby and Wigston councillor Samia Haq and her husband Zaffar organised a fundraising dinner attended by the senior cabinet minister where the prize of a weekend in a Bentley car was on offer.

The prize was auctioned and local businessman Naeem Sattar bid £650 to scoop the prize – money which went to the Oadby mayor’s nominated charity of the year the Leicestershire branch of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

Mr Haq said: “The event was a business dinner aimed at raising money and we like to raise money for health causes, particularly LLR as there have been a number of high-profile cases recently.

“LLR is the mayor’s chosen charity for the year, so we were keen to help and so were the more than 100 people who attended.

“We were very pleased with the event, and with the turnout and support for a very good cause – and of course Naeem Sattar was very pleased to win the prize of a weekend in a Bentley kindly donated by the company.”

Mayor Linda Broadley, whose year in office comes to a close this month, has spent the year raising money for LLR.

This is a charity close to the mayor’s heart due to a loved one being diagnosed with both leukaemia and lymphoma. A spokesman for LLR said: “Linda Broadley’s tenure is coming to an end but the support given to the Leicester and Rutland branch of this charity has been second to none.”

The cheque was handed over by Mr and Cllr Haq, as well as Naeem Sattar and his wife Maheen Sattar.

A big thank you to all involved!
