KMU Faculty Regulations, 2017
THE KHYBER MEDICAL UNIVERSITY FACULTY REGULATIONS 2017
Whereas it is expedient to regulate teaching Departments, Faculties, and Colleges/ Institutions of the University, the following regulations are here by framed Under provision of Section 2 (o) & (v)and Section 29 of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Universities (Amendment) Act 2016;
- These regulations may be called as “The Khyber Medical University Faculty Regulations 2017”.
- They shall come into force at once.
- Definitions:
(a)Clinical sub-unit: Means a Clinical sub-specialty which is headed by a teacher.
(b)Clinical Unit: Clinical Specialty / Sub-specialty with at least four teachers, one against each clinical teaching position as defined i.e. Senior Registrar, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor.
(c)Clinical Department: Combination of one or more clinical units or sub units based in a teaching hospital of a constituent college or institute.
(d)Board of Faculties as provided under Section 1 of KMU constitution, functions & powers of authorities of the university Statutes, 2016.
(e)Board of Studies: as provided under Section 3 of KMU constitution, functions & powers of authorities of the university Statutes, 2016.
(f)Teaching Department: as provided under Section 4 of KMU constitution, functions & powers of authorities of the university Statutes, 2016.
(g)Advanced Studies & Research Board (AS&RB): as provided under Section 7 of KMU constitution, functions & powers of authorities of the university Statutes, 2016.
- Clinical Department:
(a)There shall be a clinical department comprising of one or more clinical units and sub-units of different clinical specialties and sub-specialties, according to the teaching and training needs of medical education as prescribed by Pakistan Medical & Dental Council and College of Physicians & Surgeons of Pakistan for the purpose, from time to time, in each teaching hospital of the Constituent Colleges / Institutes.
(b)Each Clinical Unit shall be headed by a Professor, who shall be called the head of the Unit, similarly any available senior faculty member at the sub-unit shall be called the Incharge of that unit and the unit shall be under the administrative and academic control of that very major discipline of clinical sciences.
Provided that when a sub-unit has got all the four teachers against the clinical teaching positions, as explained in regulation 3(a) & (b), it shall become a full fledged unit or department of that sub-specialty and notified as such by the concerned Authority.
(c)Where the clinical department comprises of different units and sub-units, the senior most amongst the incharge/ heads of the units shall be the Chairman of the Department, who shall be responsible for overall management of the Department.
A panel of three senior most teachers shall be recommended to the syndicate for approval by mutual consultation of Dean and Vice Chancellor.
- The University shall include the following Faculties and shall be consisting of the following departments.
(a)THE FACULTY OF CLINICAL SCIENCES;
This faculty will comprise of the following Clinical departments;
1)General Medicine;
2)Pediatrics;
3)Pulmonology;
4)Cardiology;
5)Dermatology;
6)Psychiatry;
7)Radiology;
8)Endocrinology;
9)Gastroenterology;
10)Nephrology;
11)Neurology;
12)Oncology;
13)Anaesthesiology;
14)General Surgery;
15)Gynaecology & Obstetrics;
16)ENT;
17)Ophthalmology;
18)Cardiovascular and Cardiothoracic Surgery;
19)Neurosurgery;
20)Orthopaedics;
21)Paediatric Surgery;
22)Plastic Surgery;
23)Transplant surgery;
24)Urology;
25)Any other emerging department related to surgical and allied sciences.
(b)The Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences:
This faculty will comprise of the following disciplines;
1)Anatomy;
2)Physiology;
3)Biochemistry;
4)Pharmacology;
5)Histopathology;
6)Haematology;
7)Microbiology;
8)Molecular biology and Genetics;
9)Chemical pathology;
10)Forensic Science;
11)Any other emerging discipline related to basic medical sciences.
(c)THE FACULTY OF DENTISTRY;
This faculty will comprise of the following disciplines;
1)Maxillofacial Surgery;
2)Prosthetic;
3)Orthodontics;
4)Operative Dentistry;
5)Periodontics;
6)Paedodontics;
7)Oral Medicine;
8)Dental Material;
9)Any other relevant subject
(d)THE FACULTY OF HEALTH PROFESSIONS EDUCATION AND RESEARCH
1)Health Professions Education
2)Health Research
3)Any other relevant subject
(e)THE FACULTY OF ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES;
1)Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation
2)Speech & Language therapy
3)Prosthetic & Orthotic Sciences
4)Vision Sciences
5)Paramedical Sciences
6)Nursing Sciences
7)Homeopathy
8)Any other relevant subject
(f)THE FACULTY OF PUBLIC HEALTH AND SOCIAL SCIENCES
1)Public Health
2)Biostatistics & Epidemiology
3)Maternal & Child Health
4)Behavioral Sciences
5)Community Medicine
6)Any other relevant subject
- Functions of Board of studies
In addition to all functions and powers of the Board of studies defined at section 3 of Khyber Medical University Constitution, Functions and Powers of Authorities of the University Statutes, 2016, the following shall also be the functions of the Board of Studies:
Propose & Recommend the:
(a)Vision & Mission of the Institute
(b)Policies & procedures for future growth and development of the institute.
(c)Policies & procedures for efficient management of the institute with special reference to :
- Academic governance including academic audit
- Research & development governance including R&D audit.
- Financial management including annual budgetary approval including financial audit of research projects/activities.
- Human resource development & management including performance audit of academic & research activities
(d)Set targets and standards for:
- Academic growth and development
- Research growth and development
- Quality assurance in academics, research, clinical practice, HRD and HRM and financial management.
