THE JOB/ROLE: This is an exciting opportunity for a graduate/postgraduate civil/mechanical engineer managing a strategic project for Voltcom Construction Ltd, part of the Voltcom Group, whilst being supported by Cardiff University. We are looking to appoint a well-organised, highly motivated individual to take the lead role in an engineering project in the areas of portable, rapidly deployable structures used in conjunction with power–lines, roads, railways and pathways.
THE COMPANY: You will be employed by Cardiff University but will work both at Cardiff School of Engineering and at Voltcom offices in Llantrisant. Voltcom Construction is a global business unit supplying the power industry with overhead lines foundation and cabling. This includes the construction of foundations and access routes as well as the refurbishment and dismantling of all types of overhead power-lines, from wood/steel/concrete poles to lattice structures. Voltcom also offers maintenance of these approaches and cabling solutions in cable services from low voltage, medium voltage, high voltage and extra high voltage cable installation. With considerable experience in managing new and diverted circuits, under-grounding of overhead lines, as well as refurbishments and replacements of underground cables.
THE CANDIDATE: Should have aA degree (minimum 2:1)or higher in Civil/Mechanical Engineering. It would be advantageous, although not essential, for the Candidate to have some practical structural design engineering experience. The candidate will be able to plan, organise and prioritise work and be capable of working independently and as a part of a team to meet tight schedules. S/he will need the aptitude and personality to succeed in a company environment and must be able to demonstrate confidence, initiative and enthusiasm, where leadership qualities will be required and developed.
SALARY AND PACKAGE: The salary will be £23000to £28000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. The rewards package includes an additional £4,000 personal training and development budget.
