The Independent Project Worksheet
Criteria:
- ALL projects must span 18 weeks. (See below for specific examples.)
- If necessary, Mrs. Dion reserves the right to exempt you from this project due to extended absences. You will NOT be exempt from this project if you fail to utilize good use of classroom time to complete school work.
- The focus of the Independent Project is on CREATIVITY, CREATIVE PROBLEM-SOLVING, LONG-TERM PLANNING AND ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS, SELF-DIRECTION, SELF-DISCIPLINE AND MOTIVATION.
Options for Intro to Graphic Art:
- One major Photoshop project or illustration project (by hand or in Photoshop).
- A completion of a series of Photoshop tutorials from the internet or book/magazine sources that you research and complete.
- A portfolio of hand-created drawings with a visually professional presentation on the due date.
- A portfolio of Photoshop created images (saved on the computer.)
- A sketchbook with dates within the semester for each image. (You must supply your own sketchbook.)
- If you have an idea for your Independent Project that is not listed here, present it to Mrs. Dion and a mutual agreement may be achieved.
Options for Intro to Studio Art:
- One major drawing, illustration, painting, 3-D project (could be broken down into several small projects.)
- A completion of a series of drawing/painting lessons that you research and complete (lessons from internet or book sources).
- A portfolio of hand-created drawings with a visually professional presentation on the due date.
- A sketchbook with dates within the semester for each image. (You must supply your own sketchbook.)
- If you have an idea for your Independent Project that is not listed here, present it to Mrs. Dion and a mutual agreement may be achieved.
- What would you like to create for your Independent Project? Describe in as much detail as possible.
- What media and techniques do you want to use?
- Do you need special storage space for any materials you will be bringing to class?
- How long do you think your project will take to create if you worked on it once a week?
- Since this is an “open-ended” project, there will be no official deadline until the end of the 2nd term (4th term for the Spring semester). You may be able to complete more than one “Independent Project” during the course. However, since this is an in-class project the amount of time you are able to devote to it depends upon the time that is available to you after completing the required class projects. As we approach the ¾ mark of the 2nd (or 4th) term, you will be able to take the project home to complete. Please initial here showing that you understand this part ______.

5. STUDIO PROCEDURES: The student’s effort, conduct, and respect to supplies tools and policies.
The project will be evaluated using the art project rubric for the Intro level art classes.
