Body:

To strengthen educational attainment goals for the children of Hancock County, it is important that 100% of Hancock County children are prepared for kindergarten. The challenge is that 28% of Hancock County children attending public schools did not meet 2014 kindergarten literacy readiness standards. Hancock County Community Foundation is leading an early childhood literacy initiative with the goal of providing readily available reading resources beginning at birth. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is the program the Hancock County Community Foundation has adopted to accomplish this goal.

Imagination Library is an early childhood literacy program launched by the Dollywood Foundation in 1995 thanks to the vision and generosity of singer, performer Dolly Parton. The Imagination Library programwill provide free age appropriate books to babies born on or after January 1, 2016 who are residents of Hancock County. Books are delivered monthly to the home, and in the name, of the enrolled child…in other words, children will receive their very own books.

Imagination Library is made possible through a partnership of the Hancock County Community Foundation (HCCF) who is taking the lead role in securing funding for the program and the Hancock County Public Library (HCPL) who is responsible for enrolling children and placing book orders.

Help us raise awareness of the continuing need and raise funds for the children of our community. Please show your support by making a donation online or at the HCCF officeduring the week of November 9-13.
