CHAMPION SECTION: ANY individual may enter the Champion section, but individuals with ratings above 1500 MUST enter this section. The winner of the Open section will be crowned as the Hour Glass Chess Tournament Champion.

KING SECTION: Individuals with ratings between 1301 and 1500 must enter this section or the Champion section, despite age group.

ROOK SECTION: Criteria 1: Individuals with ratings between 1100 and 1300. Criteria 2: Individuals born in 1999 or 2000 may enter this section (13 yrs – 14 yrs in 2013).

KNIGHT SECTION: Criteria 1: Individuals with provisional/provincial and ratings below 1100; Criteria 2: Individuals born in 2001 and AFTER (12 years and younger during 2013) may enter this section.

·  All entrants will receive an official Hour Glass Chess Tournament notation pad, pen, and bottled water during the registration at the venue.

·  Chess clocks will be provided by the organisers.

Where: Tourist Centre, 60 Park Avenue, Willows, Bloemfontein, CTI/MGI offices. Venue signs and parking security will be situated around the venue.

When: 4-5 October 2013.

Refreshments: There are various food outlets and Cafes situated close to the venue.

Arbiters: Mr. Harry Myburgh and Prof. Schalk Schoombie

2.  Rate of play: 6 Rounds of 60/60 (60 min. per player).

CHAMPION SECTION: 1st Place – R700 and floating trophy. The winner of the Open section will also be crowned the official Hour Glass MGI/BCC Chess Champion.

2nd Place: R400 and 2nd place miniature trophy.

3rd Place: R150 and 3rd place miniature trophy.

KING SECTION: 1st Place – R700 and miniature trophy.

2nd place: R400 and miniature trophy.

3rd place: R150 and miniature trophy.

ROOK SECTION: 1st Place – R700 and miniature trophy.

2nd Place: R400 and miniature trophy.

*Please note: Any individuals, personnel, or family members of individuals affiliated with CTI/MGI may unfortunately not be considered for lucky draw prizes.

The prize giving ceremony and lucky draw is at 17:00 or 15 min after the last game.

*PLEASE NOTE: If the amount of player entries is less than 100 the prize monies may need to be adapted accordingly.

Entries will close on Tuesday, 1 October 2013 at 21:00. Participants need to ensure that they submit fully complete entry forms. If a school, institution, coach or another designated individual handles the entry forms on behalf of the participants they may use the group entry form. Please check the website hourglasschess.yolasite.com or contact Tobias to confirm whether the tournament entries have not reached the maximum tournament capacity (150 players). Participants will be included based on a first come first served basis, and players who have submitted fully completed entry forms AND proof of payment will have preference.

Late entries will only be accepted till 11:00 on Wednesday, 2 October 2013, but a PENALTY of R50.00 will be levied on such entries.

until Wednesday, 2 October 2013. Please indicate the ID-number of the individual (individual entry form) followed by CHESS, or the ID-number of the first individual on the Group Entry Form followed by CHESS as reference number on the deposit slip.

If entry fees (individual and group fees) are not deposited by Wednesday, 2 October 2013, it must be paid during registration (15:00 – 16:20) on Friday, 4 October 2013. All players who didn’t meet the due date for payment or didn’t pay at all must either show proof of electronic payment or pay during registration.

Registration will only be between 15:00 and 16:20 on Friday. All players that arrive after 16:30 will only be assisted between 18:00 – 18:30. This implies that these players will only partake from Round 2.

Players who have deposited their entry fee by Wednesday, 2 October 2013 MUST also register on Friday. However, only these players will be allowed to do so by confirming their details and ticking off their name on the player lists between 16:30 and 16:45. If they can not be present by then, they can also confirm participation by SMS to 072545 1330 between 15:00 and 16:45. ALL players need to bring their proof of payment on the tournament day (4 October) for registration purposes.

Players, who have not either registered between 15:30 and 16:30 or confirmed participation by ticking off their names by 16:45, will NOT be drawn for the first round, even though entry fees were paid earlier.
