The Hotel Apprenticeship Training Program - 2017
The Ministry of Labour, Elders, Youth, Women and Children (MLEYWC), Zanzibar Association of Tourism Investors (ZATI) in partnership with Zanzibar Institute of Tourism Development (ZIToD) with the support of International Labour Organisation (ILO) is introducing the Apprenticeship Training Programme in Hotel operations.
The Program is aimed at actively engaging employers in training as part of ensuring that graduates possess skills relevant to the labour market requirement in the tourism sector.
Formal apprenticeship is a training system in which the industry takes the responsibility of training in close collaboration with training institutions. Besides, it entails joint identification of the training content, joint identification of standards and joint assessment of the competency and skills attained. This approach has been found very effective in ensuring that the training institutions produce the graduates with the skills that are required in the specific sector.
In the arrangement the apprentices not only learns at a college but also learns through hands on practical experience through working while training in a natural work Environment.
The Apprenticeship Training Program Committee is looking to recruit the first training batch in Zanzibar to be trained through this approach.
Successful completion of the Training programme will lead to a NACTE Technician Certificate award level 5 offered by the Zanzibar Institute of Tourism Development (ZIToD).
