More heads turned. An usher moved quickly down the aisles, bent over the man and whispered, “Sir! Control yourself!” “I can’t help it. I got religion!” the man responded. “Well,” the usher replied, “you didn’t get it here! By Marj Carpenter

Dear Hawfields Friend,

I will soon be leaving you and all those good times we shared together in ministry. These 23 months as your Interim Pastor have been filled with both exciting opportunities and daunting challenges. Through it all, this has been the most fulfilling time in my ministry. We have walked together following along after Jesus, and have been able to accomplish some things that have truly changed lives.

I will miss you and those special gifts of hospitality with which you have supported me, cared for me and encouraged me in ministry. I have been honored that you have allowed me to share in both your joyful times and your times of personal loss. In those experiences, I have witnessed the Grace of God working through you and been strengthened in my belief that a loving God is active and present in all our lives.

It is sad to leave you, but I believe that God has other plans for me. I leave excited about the man who you have called to be your Pastor. He is a true man of God that brings to Hawfields an impressive set of gifts and abilities. Hawfields’ future is truly bright! As always, the future will bring changes and challenges. You need not worry about the future just remember the scripture: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight. In all your ways acknowledge him and he will make straight your paths. “ (Proverbs 3: 5-6)

Continue to do all those wonderful things that demonstrate the Kingdom of God before our world. You will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.

“May the God of hope fill you will all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13)

Love, Ray
