Trinity Med Day is celebrating its 10th year! In that time, Med Day has raised over €500,000 for Trinity-affiliated hospital charities. These include: in SJH – Care of the Elderly, ICU, Stroke Unit, Mental Health Recovery, and the Burns Unit; and in AMNCH – ICU, Palliative Care, the Centre for Cardiovascular Risk in Young People, Colorectal Screening, and the National Children’s Hospital; and the Neonatal Intensive Care Units in the Coombe and Rotunda Hospitals. Donations have also been made to the Trinity Access Programme.

Trinity Med Day 2011 is currently being organised by the 4th year medical students. The beneficiaries this year are the Heart Failure Unit, SJH and the Epilepsy Unit, AMNCH. A contribution will also be made to the Arts & Alzheimer’s Initiative.

The goal this year is to raise a record-breaking €100,000.

In order to help the students reach their goal and to mark the 10th year, some of us who have been involved in the past are planning the Trinity Med Day 10th Anniversary Gala.

The Gala will take place on Saturday, 5th November in the Convention Centre Dublin and is black tie.

The Gala will feature a drinks reception, dinner, and entertainment by Ireland’s premier party band, the Heartbeats. Tickets are priced at €100per person. A table of 10 is priced at €1000.

Since it began in 2002, Trinity Med Day has always depended on the support of the School of Medicine and the Faculty of Health Sciences. This is especially true this year. I am writing today to ask for your support of Trinity Med Day 2011 and the 10th Anniversary Gala, in particular. A strong faculty and staff presence at the Gala would underscore the importance of Med Day on the Trinity College School of Medicine calendar and, more importantly, would assist in reaching the fundraising target. We would be hopeful that your schedules will allow you to attend.

Tickets are available in SJH and AMNCH.
