The Fort Worth Public Library Foundation Continues Books That Cook:

Desserts with Dotty

FORT WORTH, TX (August 23, 2017) "Desserts with Dotty," happening at 6 p.m., October 12, is the next installment in its Books That Cook series, the Fort Worth Public Library Foundation announced today. Local cookbook author/food editor/restaurant critic Dotty Griffith offers her expertise and thoughts on Texas desserts. Just in time for the upcomingholidays, this evening of traditional Texas treats promises to be one to treasure.

A native of Terrell, Dotty Griffith spent thirty years as a journalist at the Dallas Morning News where she was first the food editor and then a restaurant critic. Griffith traveled the U.S. and the world learning about food far beyond her city and state. “I’m an international citizen of the food world, firmly rooted in Texas,” Griffith has said. She has been a food judge for many contests and her articles and recipes have appeared in The Ladies Home Journal, Gourmet, Money Magazine, Travel and Leisure, The Wine Spectator and The Smithsonian. Griffith will discuss her bookThe Texas Holiday Cookbook. Currently, she teaches a food writing course at the University of North Texas in Denton.

Join us for a discussion with Dottymoderated by June Naylor on Thursday, October 12 at 6 p.m. at the Fort Worth CentralLibrary located downtown. Naylor, also a cookbook author, will dive into Griffith’s experience of and how sheembraces local ingredients, recipesand traditional Texas techniques. Naylorand Griffith — who discovered a few years ago that they’re third cousins —will discuss their cookbooks in some detail, as well as the process of putting the books together. Griffith will have her Texas Holiday Cookbook for sale and will be available to sign copies.
More About Books That Cook
Books That Cook is aseries of free public lectures featuring local cookbook authors and their journeys to publishing. Each will give tips for testing recipes and tell stories about how they developed their own recipes or tweaked family instructions. The Fort Worth Public Library Foundation promotes awareness of the Fort Worth Library’s many resources, including more than 3,600 cookbooks in the collection available for borrowing.

The Fort Worth Public Library Foundation’s mission is to benefit both the Fort Worth Library and the Fort Worth community by providing resources that support educational programming, buildings, and infrastructure improvements.
