RESOLUTION NO. 17-05

ARESOLUTIONURGINGTHEUNITEDSTATESCONGRESSTOREJECT INCREASING THE WEIGHT OF SINGLE-TRAILER TRUCKS AND INCREASING THE LENGTH OF DOUBLE-TRAILER TRUCKS; AND PROVIDING FOR OTHER MATTERS IN CONNECTION THEREWITH

AresolutionurgingtheUnitedStatesCongresstoreject increasing the weight of single-trailer trucks and increasing the length of double-trailer trucks. These trucks create a strain on our infrastructure, ultimately causing serious safety issues and serious funding issues.

WHEREAS, The City of Mandeville is concerned for the health, welfare and safety of the City's residents and the conditions of its infrastructure; and

WHEREAS, The City of Mandeville is concerned that attempts are being made at the federal level to increase the size, weight and allowable number of trailers beyond the capacity ofexisting road infrastructure; and

WHEREAS, bigger and heavier trucks cause greater acceleration of the deterioration of the City's highways, roads and bridges putting further pressure on local taxpayers to fundinfrastructure; and

WHEREAS, the investments in our Parish, State and Federal road systems have not kept up with increased traffic levels, current funding for roads and bridges across all governmentlevels in the state is inadequate and investments by local governments have beencurbed by cuts in municipal state aide, Parish state aide and a shrinking federalhighway fund; and

WHEREAS, The City of Mandeville, strongly opposes all legislation that attempts to shift costs and liability of private businesses on to local governments and threatens local control of local roads:

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mandeville City Council officially does proclaim that the City of Mandeville opposes any legislation that seeks to increase truck size or weight beyond the capacity of our road systems and putting Louisiana highways, roads and bridges at risk of increased damage or deterioration.

With the above resolution having been properly introduced and duly seconded, the votewas as follows:
