The following is our first CSTS weekly digest.

  • This Past Week
  • Jul 20 (Wed) : Data Training

We were very excited to introduce our data entry system to you at our second data training session on Jul 20. This was a repeat session of the data training done on Jul 13.

The materials for the training have been uploaded to our website at and we are in the process of uploading the audio recordings of the sessions. If you missed both training sessions and would like additional support, please also do not hesitate to contact us.

Next Steps: If you are a Facility Administrator (Project Lead or Project Coordinator), look for an email from the past two weeks with the subject: ‘Welcome to the Cardiac Surgery Translation Study (CSTS)’ in your inbox. Please use the account and password to log onto the training system and familiarize yourself with the system. You may create units and accounts for your Unit Data Entry personnel (UDE) for them to access the training system as well.

  • Jul 21 (Thu) : Coaching Call

In our coaching call this month, we continued to address questions on topics such as the data entry system and the implementation of CUSP from sites. The audio recording of this session will be available next week on our website.

  • Jul 27 (Wed) : Data Entry Begins

Next Wednesday our data entry system will officially go live. We will be sending new log-in information to Facility Administrators (FAs) and requesting that FAs create unit accounts for Unit Data Entry personnel (UDE) to begin data entry. FAs will also need enter the number of HSOPS survey respondents to begin the HSOPS process. Additional support materials explaining the HSOPS process will be provided on Monday Jul 25.

  • QSRG Becomes Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality at Johns Hopkins

Recognizing the urgent need to advance the science of reducing preventable harm and improve health care quality, Johns Hopkins Medicine is integrating the Quality and Safety Research Group (QSRG) and Center for Innovation into the newly established Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality. The Armstrong Institute will oversee all of the current patient safety and quality efforts throughout Johns Hopkins Medicine. Peter J. Pronovost, M.D., Ph.D., has been named director of the Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality at Johns Hopkins as well as Johns Hopkins Medicine's senior vice president for patient safety and quality.
