Good afternoonSMS family, this is Principal Turner with the weekly SMS Update for April 16th –April 20th.

The following announcements are updates that will help to keep you informed of the upcoming activities taking place on our campus over the next week.

  • Thank you to everyone who participated in the blood drive on Friday. We fell short of our goal of 38 donors but we still had a great turnout. Thank you also to Ms. Arellano and all of our parent volunteers that helped to make the blood drive a success.
  • Our next SLT meeting will be held on Tuesday at 5:00pm in the school media center. Please join our parents and fellow faculty members to discuss initiatives to support our campus.
  • Wednesday, April 18th is an early release professional development day for all CMS schools. School will be closed on the 18th at 1:15pm. All afterschool events, including athletics will be cancelled on April 18th
  • 3rd quarter progress reports will be distributed to scholars on Thursday, April 19th. If you would like to schedule a conference with teachers and your scholar’s grade level administrator please email your scholar’s homeroom teacher on administrator to schedule a meeting.
  • On Tuesday, April 24th we will have the grand opening of our new ELL Language Lab. Thanks to a grant from the Jimmy Johnson Foundation, our ESL Department has renovated and updated our Language Lab. To commemorate the event, UNCC’s Dr. Chance Lewis will provide a PD training for our parents on "How to Advocate Your Student". Join us as we celebrate with our parents.
  • Baseball, soccer and Track games continue this week. Our baseball and soccer teams have a home game versus McClintock on Monday and travel to Eastway Middle on Tuesday. On Thursday our track team travels to Whitewater Academy. Thank you to all of our teacher-leaders and coaches who continue the work of mentoring and molding our scholars after school.
  • Weekly parent newsletters are sent home each Monday. Please check your scholar’s Spartan Agenda for the weekly newsletter. The newsletter contains all of the messages that are included in our weekly Connect Ed message plus additional information about core instruction and school culture events taking place on our campus. The newsletters are in English & Spanish.

As always, we thank you for your continued support and we look forward to a positive, productive and transformative week ahead.
