Organisations across Wales to take part inannual volunteering celebrations

From picnics to award ceremonies, organisations up and down Wales are celebrating the vital work of volunteers as part of this year’s extended Volunteers Week.

Instead of the usual seven days Volunteers Weekis taking place 1-12 June in order to mark celebrations associated with the Queen's 90th birthday, andthird sector groups throughout Wales will be holding events aimed at recruiting, rewarding and recognising volunteers.

Volunteers’ Week is a national event which showcases the fantastic contribution that millions of volunteers make across the UK. The week plays a huge part in raising their profile and has captured the imagination of charities and other third sector groups with more and more seizing the opportunity to get involved.

The volunteering team at BAVOwill be at various locations throughout the week in Bridgend County Borough giving out volunteering information. From 10am - 3pm each day, BAVO will be accompanied by various local community groups and voluntary organisations:

Denbighshire Voluntary Services Council is holding a Drop inDay on Friday 3June from 10am till 3pm at their offices in the Naylor Leyland Centre, Well Street, in Ruthin.People can call in to find out about the vast array of volunteering opportunities in Denbighshire, and how to get involved, andfind out about the groups that meet there on a weekly basis.

On Monday 6 June, Sport Wales will launch a new website designed to help sport volunteers in Wales start-up, grow or improve their club. Club Solutions (Atebion Clwb) is a one-stop-shop full of guidance and free to download documents and planning tools. Visit
St Gwladys' Church Hall in Bargoed will be holding a volunteers celebration evening on Monday 6 June to acknowledge the contribution of their volunteers over the past year. During an award ceremony volunteers will be presented with certificates for their work in supporting the local community by running groups, befriending the clients of their Debt Counselling Service and facilitating an emergency night shelter over the winter for homeless individuals.

Ystradgynlais Volunteer Centre is celebrating Volunteers' Week with a community quiz nighton Monday 6June at 7pm in Merlins, Commercial Street, Ystradgynlais. Open to all in teams, there will be a Winners prize and a raffle.

Shelter Cymru are inviting Volunteers and Trustees to spend the day at the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth on 7 June, with a range of interesting activities taking place, including a guided tour of the newly created Shelter Cymru Archive(A collection that celebrates 35 years of Shelter Cymru's work and campaigning in Wales).

On Thursday 9JuneAneurin Bevan University Health Boardare holding a Volunteering Recognition Event where they will celebrate the contribution of long service volunteers and announce the year's award winners.

PAVS Volunteering Pembrokeshire is holding a National Volunteers' Week celebration event, and Award Ceremony, on June 9 at Letterston Memorial Hall - to recognise and give thanks to volunteers giving their time and commitment within their communities in Pembrokeshire.

On Friday 10June Groundwork North Waleswill be holding a volunteers event as a 'thank you' for all the support and hard work that has been carried out over the past year. They have planned a morning of practical activities for their volunteers to get involved with along with refreshments and a picnic lunch.

Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA) will also be marking the occasion. On Friday 10 June volunteers will be given some well deserved recognition at the Wales Volunteer of the Year Awards 2016. Winners across six categories; adult; young volunteer (under 25 years); 'green' volunteer (individual of any age who volunteers with an environmental organisation or project); trustee; and international (for individuals who have volunteered with international partners/organisations in Wales); will receive their awards at a special ceremony taking place in Cardiff Castle.

WCVA’s Volunteering Spirit Wales project will also be hostingregional consultation events to let people know about the project, which is looking at how to improve the quality of volunteer involvement at public events. It will be a chance forthose who involve volunteers at events to contribute their ideas about the kind of resources and guidance thatthey would find useful.
