“The Faculty-Preceptor Relationship”

Description: In our current nurse practitioner (NP) clinical education model, the preceptor is at the heart of the clinical experience. Faculty members must rely on a preceptor to give each student opportunities to gain new knowledge and to develop clinical skills, just as the preceptor must rely on the faculty member to give information about the program and to offer guidance on the preceptor role. A strong faculty-preceptor relationship translates into a positive clinical experience for the NP student. As programs face increasing challenges in obtaining and retaining preceptors, the impetus is even greater for the faculty member to assume a more significant role in building the preceptor relationship.

This Webinar presentation is the first of more to come on this extremely important topic. This session will address three elements for fostering a positive preceptor relationship:

  • Faculty/preceptor communication for effective student assessment;
  • Dealing with difficult students in the clinical setting; and
  • Providing preceptor support.

A panel of speakers from the Frontier Nursing University will share their work in developing a resilient preceptor program.
