The Expanding Universe explained

On my favorite science channel the other night, I was fascinated by the various explanations given for the current expansion of our universe. These explanations were offered up, of course by a bevy of theoretical physicists … brilliant men and women by any standard. And yet the evidence just wasn’t enough.

To the scientific community’s surprise it was discovered that the universe was not slowing down, but instead was expanding faster … a fact contrary to the theoretical cosmological dynamic. This, of course, defies the impact of known Newtonian gravity on all physical matter. The solution was to ascribe this invisible process to a property called “dark matter” propelled by “dark energy.” These experts said that this insight resolved the issue regarding nearly 75% of the universe, which while invisible, would explain the acceleration of the residual matter from the “big bang.” This phenomenon of expansion is measured by the Doppler effect at what was believed to be a predictable rate of deceleration.

It is odd that the obvious would not have occurred to such brilliant minds. Is it possible that science might simply be struggling to explain God’s hand? This intellectual grappling intentionally side steps coming to the inevitable conclusion that a simple act of faith in God would be all that is required to embrace the unknown.

This does not mean being less scientific; it means being more realistic. It means being able to see the forest and the trees.

Hebrews 1:2 In these last days, He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things and through whom He made the universe.

Hebrews 11:3 By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen has been made from things that are not visible.

There you have it: the Scriptural answer to baffling theoretical physics by an individual who was not a physicist, not even a scientist.

What does the evidence tell you?

I Thessalonians 5:21…test all things, hold fast to what is good. Amen.

(all Scripture is the Holman Standard from CD6 e-Sword c. 2005 Rick Meyers)

Can the lack of acceptance, by the scientific community, simply by written off as the age-old rebellion of man? Is there something else occurring here?

Are scientists, by and large, unable to admit they do not know? Is that a stereotype?

What is the potential downside of allowing God the credit for what we do not know?
