VALENTINE PARTIES
Valentine parties will be held for each class in their classrooms on Friday, February 13, at 2:00 pm. The PTO will provide refreshments. Students may exchange valentine cards at this time, if they so desire. Please remind your child that candy cannot be given along with or inside the envelope. Not all children can have candy so include items such as pencils, stickers, and such so every student can participate.

GO TEXAN DAY “Go Texan Day” will be held on Friday, February 27, 2015. Students may wear western attire. Please be reminded that guns andspurs are not allowed. Our annual “Hoe Down” will be part of the festivities. So grab your partner and get ready to Do Si Do. DESTINATION IMAGINATION NEWS
Practices for the upcoming Destination Imaginationhave been in progress with our team fine tuning their performance. Mr.Leith is coaching the amazingly creatively team,The Adventurous Crazy BouncySmack-talking Zippy ZanyKit-Katswho are preparing to compete in the Destination Imagination impromptu challenge. For this challenge, the students must make up a story on the spot, and every performance is unique and entertaining. Good Luck on your competition!

birthday! The Lady Bug Garden
Club will kick off our celebration
in the Outdoor Learning Center at 4:45. A beautiful tree will be donated to Theiss in honor of our 40th birthday and in recognition of the 40 years of excellent in education.The meaning ofArbor Day will bewoven into the special ceremony.Families will be given anopportunity to donate money to the purchase of new trees to plant around our school.

Tickets for the 42ndannual Klein German Festival, scheduled for February 27, 2015, at Klein High School can be purchased at Theiss. See our front office for more information.
FFA PROJECT SHOW The Klein ISD agricultural science students and teachers at the district's four high schools are preparing for the Annual KISD FFA show. This will be a fun-filled event for the entire family with great food, raffle items and a silent auction!
The show is open to the public, with judging of projects beginning February 5-7. The auction will be held on Saturday, February 7.
CLINIC EMERGENCY CARDS
It’s time to update phone numbers on the emergency cards in the clinic. If you have had a change in your home or your work phone number, cellular or pager number, please notify the front office. Please make sure the phone numbers of the other people on your emergency list are also current. It is vitally important to your child that we are able to contact you in the event of any emergency. Please take a minute to make sure your child’s emergency card is updated.

Our favorite words to hear from our students who visit the library are, “I’ve earned my star reader t-shirt!” To date, 117 Theiss Tigers have earned their star reader t-shirts with many more close to reaching their goals. Readers make good leaders! Go Tigers!

We have several new members of the Theiss Birthday Book Club.Check out the wall in the library! For $10 you can have a book dedicatedin your child’s honor for their birthday. The district Web site at provides detailed information about the district and the individual campuses. The daily KleINTOUCH e-mail message is another good way to stay “in the know.” You may subscribe on-line by clicking KleINTOUCH on the left column of the home page of the district’s Web site.
Another important way the district communicates with its citizens is through the quarterly Klein District News. This newsletter always includes a letter from Superintendent Dr. Jim Cain to the community.
PETS ON CAMPUS
In the past, we have had children bitten by dogs on a leash. For safety reasons, please do not bring your pets to campus when picking up or dropping off your children. Teacher permission is necessary for pets to be brought to school for a specific classroom activity.
KISD CROSSING GUARDS
Klein ISD is always looking for crossing guards. An individual must be available a minimum 3 hours a day. Anyone interested in becoming a crossing guard should contact, Mr. Wendland at 832-249-4265 between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm for further information.
STUDENT SUCCESS STARTS IN THE HOME
You probably know that a student's academic success is affected by many factors. When it comes to achievement, activities outside the classroom, especially at home, can be just as influential as what happens inside the classroom.
Following are five important areas to emphasize to ensure the success of your children:
Establish a daily routine by providing a quiet time and place for your children to study. Be firm about bedtimes so the child is well-rested and alert in the classroom. Having dinner together as a family is also important, because it gives you an opportunity to talk about your children's daily school activities, projects, and expectations. Encourage communications through conversation and questioning.
Monitor your children's extracurricular activities closely. Whenever possible, arrange specific after-school activities or supervised care, always monitor television watching, and install computer software to block inappropriate websites. Also be mindful of video game content. If you can't be home right after school, call or email frequently to check in with your children, or have a trusted neighbor, relative, or friend stop by. Search out after-school programs and association activities that could serve as alternatives for children going home alone after school.
Reading books, magazines, and newspapers and talking about what is learned from them is another important aspect to pursue at home. Discussing current events and/or the day's activities is a good habit to develop. Tell stories, share problems, and write letters, notes, and messages to one another. These types of communication bring families closer together, especially today, when everyone is busy with his or her own individual activities and commitments.
Stay in touch with teachers and school staff, and express sincere interest in your children's progress at school. Work together with your children's teachers to set age-appropriate goals and standards, and to recognize and promote special talents. Compliment your children and share school success stories with family and friends.
Be a positive role model. Demonstrate ways that achievement relates to hard work and dedication. Discuss the value of a good education to possible career options, and explore ways your children can turn their true interests into satisfying career possibilities.
