THE DICTATOR DATING GAME

Purpose: To become familiar with and understand the attitudes of a dictator or a free world leader.

Instructions: Each group will prepare for and represent one of the dictators or free world leaders of the era. Your assigned group will have one actor, one reporter, and one or two researchers. The actor will be responsible for playing the leader in our LIVE dating game.

The group that does the best job of proving its case with creativity, sound research and responses, and teamwork, will be awarded the full 20 points, and a date with our lovely contestant. Second and third place will receive 19 points; fourth and fifth place will receive 18 points; sixth, seventh, and eighth place will receive 17 or fewer points.

- Adolf Hitler (Germany)- Franklin Roosevelt (USA)

- Francisco Franco (Spain)- Neville Chamberlain (Great Britain)

EVERY STUDENT must turn in the following:

Introduction to the Leader (pretty much a short biography in 8-12 sentences; it should be fun and catchy with

academic language and good transition words and phrases):

  1. birthplace,
  2. early childhood/schooling
  3. how he rose to power
  4. accomplishments,
  5. close relationships,
  6. special events in his life,
  7. personality.

ACTORS:Responsibilities are to read about the character, become familiar with him, prepare a costume, rehearse, participate in the Dating Game.

REPORTERS:Research the biography and prepare and present a welcome statement.In your statement, introduce your character, include a short biography about him, and describe his accomplishments.

RESEARCHERS:Please choose 7-8 questions (maybe choose to do odds/evens) to fill out below to research and respond for your actor. This should reflect the biography of the dictator. Each answer should be at least TWO-THREE well-written complete sentences or more. BE THOROUGH

Theanswers will not be found in your research. Take what you found and apply the information. Imagine what they may have said based on what you know about them. Be creative but it has tomake sense and relate to the character.

4. What are your hobbies? What do you do in your spare time?

5.*If you are a dictator: What are your favorite methods for controlling your people?

*If you are a free world leader: What are your favorite methods for winning elections?

6.Who do you really dislike? Why?

7.Who are your worst enemies? How do you treat your enemies?

8.What do you believe about human freedoms such as the freedoms of speech, religion, expression?

9.What are some of your military accomplishments or conflicts that you have been engaged in?

10.How do you feel about mass murder or genocide?

11.What are your favorite methods for controlling the masses? Do you like to use secret police?

12.If you were given one week to rule my country, what would you do?

13.Why do you think you are best leader in history?

14.What is a famous quote or saying that you think identifies your leader’s personality or beliefs?
