STATEMENT OF PURPOSE (GTE Statement)
I am Suman Rijal, son of Mr.Kabi Raj Rijal and Mrs.Nuna Maya Silwal Rijal, a permanent resident of Khairahani Municipality, Ward No. 06, Chitwan, Nepal pursuing an enrollment for the course Diploma of Business followed by Bachelor of Information Technology from one of the top ranked university of Australia, Southern Cross university, Sydney Campus.
I have passed my School Leaving Certificate (SLC) from Daisy Higher Secondary Boarding School, Chitwan securing first division and higher secondary level from Gurukul Higher Secondary School, Chitwan,with first division. Since my childhood, I had a dream to study abroad. To make my dream a reality, I planned to pursue further study from Australia. For that purpose, Itook my IELTS examinationon 20th august 2016, and obtained overall band score of 6.0.
I always dreamt of studying abroad so that I could learn in a multi-cultural environment with people from all around the world and more importantly Iwould love to gain international degree which is globallyrecognized.Very few people of Nepal only get an opportunity to study abroad and those people have high social recognition and are financially sound in my country. With a strong desire to be like them, I fantasized of studying abroad since a small age. As soon as I completed my Higher Education, I started doing research in my dream course of IT in my own country. The fee structures as well as course structure seemed all good in Nepal but my interest to gain international degree motivated me to find better options overseas. I discussed my plan of studying abroad with my family, and they were ready to go with my dream and invest money for my abroad higher education though it could be bit costly compared to Nepal.
My parents asked me to study somewhere near so that I could visit them regularly. That’s why; I began researching universities of India that offer high class teaching facilities in Asia with job placements. Butas India also has almost same culture as that of Nepal and no unique education system, I changed my mind. My first preference was to study in multicultural and English speaking country where I can gain cultural diversity. I then continued my research in Europe and other English speaking country. I searched for Universities in Canada and few states of U.S.A. Canada had challenging weather throughout the year and USA has many security issues now days. I was informed that Europe might not be safe for International students and lot of terrorism related issuesfrightened me. Similarly, Europe has language barrier. Lack of International laws for students and no application of proper gun control mechanism in these countries made me reject those options. However, when I researched about Australia and went through it in detail, I found that every feature matched my preferences and they were very suitable for me.
Australia is a country with good reputation and has its own way of delivering quality education in a friendly and multicultural environment. Australia is among the top 3 destinations for all international students after UK and United States despite having only 23 million populations.The main reason for me wanting to study in Australia is that the Australian degrees have national and international recognition. There is a national policy called Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) which ensures uniform and recognized progression for study. Moreover, Australia practices the ESOS (Education Services for Overseas Students)Act which is designed to protect the education standards for international students studying in Australia. Australia delivers regulatory requirements for education and training institutions through the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS). Thus, I can be sure that I will gain quality education in one of the safestcountryof the world.
Accordingly, Australia has its growing reputation in the field of practical knowledge and quality education. In addition to this, Australia has a suitable climate similar to that of Nepal which will make me comfortable and easy to adapt to new environment. Beside this, there are many other attractions such as tuition fees protection system, gun control system, health insurance policy, and fantastic places to visit during vacations.I do not have any intention to work and live in Australia,however post study working visa option has also attracted me which will certainly help me gain practical knowledge in my related field from cutting edge environment. Therefore, to gain the best career opportunity with international exposure, I decided to pursue my higher education in Australia.
When I decided to study in Australia I went through a couple of Universities and colleges in Australia and my research was primary focused on location, quality, course and affordability. I chose Southern Cross University to attain further education because Southern Cross University’s Sydney campus is in Sydney CBD which is the perfect location close to public transportations, and main attractions such as Harbor Bridge and Opera House. I got to know that SCU is well organized and offers dynamic facilities which meet the expectations of students. Likewise, SCU falls under the well ranked university among 500 universities in the world. It is rated “well above world standard” in research areas of global significance. SCU offers the course which exactly fits my future career, i.e., Diploma of Business followed by Bachelors of Information Technology.
As it is well known that this modern era is almost impossible without business and IT but my focus will primarily remain in IT, because wearing several hats at the same time may hamper my studies. Tuition fee of SCU is very competitive without compromising in quality, and it falls within the suitable range of my family income.Both teaching and research section includes highly qualified and internationally recruited staff. It’s well researched curriculum, and highly competitive and practical teaching methodologies will help me be competitive in the international market. Because of all these reasons, I chose the SCU Sydney campus for my further study.
Information Technology has always been a keen interest to me. Since my childhood, I have been amazed by the evolution of Technology in the modern era. I used to wonder how a non-living ‘machine’ could work on its own without any assistance, how fascinatingly a piece of metal could understand the commands and how a computer processes and stores huge amount of data. It was this curiosity and interest of mine that drove me to pursue IT as a career. And to achieve excellence on this field, I chose Diploma of Business leading to Bachelor of Information Technology. Another reason behind taking the Diploma of Business is to gain proper knowledge about the business as it is very important in this business era.
Beside these, studying at university means that there will be a lot of fellow competitors and I might get lost in a crowd because here in Nepal I have always studied among limited number of students. Secondly, it will be difficult to complete the assignments and other related tasks due to lack of direct access with lecturer or trainer because of large number of students. Learning in small group always benefits the students in many ways. Thus, choosing the Diploma course will make me adjust there at a complete new environment, makeme familiar with the assignment, andbuild strong foundation using the new method of learning.
After completion of my diploma course, I will get a credit to continue my bachelor’s degree in the field of IT, which is the prominent reason behind my attraction towards diploma course. Similarly, Bachelor of Information Technology will bring me to the field of programming principle, system analysis, operating systems, Business principles, etc. Adding to this is a fact that the world is on the threshold of hectic development in technologies making computer engineering very indispensable. So, to be absorbed in the market, the course helpsto create a strong foundation on themes of server configuration & tools, sustainability in workplace, web programming and design project.Considering the betterment of my future, I have set my mind to pursue Diploma of business followed by Bachelor of Information Technology.
Upon completion of Bachelor of Information Technology from Southern Cross University, I intend to continue my careerin the same field. I will gain experiences in related field and return to my country seeking a fulfilling job. I will be qualified for technical fields like Networking, System Analysis, IT Security, and many others. My aim is to work as a senior network engineer in reputed companies such as Nepal Telecom, Ncell or IT based companies for instance Subisu, Classitech, Techminds, World Link etc.IT graduates specially the ones with international degree are mostly preferred in my country Nepal and are highly paidin market.My starting salary as a senior network engineer will be around NRS 80,000 in Nepal. With my skills and knowledge, I will be able to achieve more experience in my work which will prove to be productive on growing career position. With the increasing experience, I will be able to get promoted to higher positions which will ultimately help me to increase my monthly remuneration above average.After completion of my study, I will return to my native land for the better life, to manage my family property and to take care of my family.
Finally, I would like to assure the Department of Immigration and Border Protection that I will sincerely abide by all clauses under500 Visa Subclass. I shall be dedicated to my study and complete my course within mentioned duration by the university. I hereby submit you my application along with other necessary documents. I assure you that I have commitment and sincerity in following all the rules and regulations of University as well as of those of Australia.
