Local News

The Dementia Roadshow Bus is coming to Hackney.

On Tuesday 21st October 2014, the ‘Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Roadshow’ will be coming to Hackney. Between 10am and 4pm our mobile office will be parked up outside the CLR James Library in Dalston, where staff from Alzheimer’s Society Hackney & City office will be there to talk with passers-by about dementia.

The Dementia Roadshow bus is essentially a mobile office. Our staff will be handing out literature and information about dementia to raise awareness and show how Alzheimer’s Society may be able to help.

In addition, there is a private space in the bus where people can talk with a Dementia Adviser in confidence.

Welcome to Tamar Nissim, our new Dementia Adviser.

It is our pleasure to welcome a new Dementia Adviser to our team. Tamar Nissim commenced with us in August 2014 and is currently undertaking her full induction programme into the work of Alzheimer’s Society.

Tamar will be responsible for all referrals from the NW GP Cluster. Over the next few weeks, Tamar will be contacting all her allocated surgeries to introduce herself.

National News

Research into dementia made easier.

Join dementia research is a national service that enables people to register their interest in dementia research and be matched with potentially suitable research studies.

The service’s development is being funded by the Department of Health and it will be delivered in a partnership with the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Network, Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer’s Research UK. People with dementia, their carers and anyone interested in participating in dementia research can register either online, by post or via a telephone helpline provided by the charity’s partners.

Registration will involve providing demographic and health information which will allow people to be broadly matched to suitable studies. Researchers wishing to use the service for recruitment and feasibility will be able to create studies, screen and approach suitable, matched volunteers.

Key objectives of ‘Join dementia research’:

• To increase the number of people with dementia and their carers getting involved in dementia research.

• To contribute to achieving the Prime Minister’s Dementia Challenge ambition for 10% of dementia patients to be involved in research.

• To increase the co-ordination, speed and efficiency of the NIHR Clinical Research Network to recruit volunteers into dementia research studies.
