The day after Steve jobs died CD 3 track 1

John: A young woman takes a picture of a bunch of flowers and other dozens of farewell Post-itstickers in front of an Apple store.Have you seen this photo taken the day after Steve jobs died, Jamila?

Jamila: Yes, I saw this picture on the news website when Steve Jobs died. That was on 7 October 2011. I think it was taken in Barcelona, in Spain.

John: Barcelona? The Barça?Leo Messi my hero…..

Jamila: I can't understand why people worship football players likeLeo Messi or businessmen like Steve jobs.

John: Why not?

Jamila: Well. What good do these people do to humanity? What difference do they make to your life?

John: Well, without people like Steve Jobs I wouldn't have an iPhone. I wouldn't be able to surf the web wherever I am. My life would be different. I couldn't take pictures of you.

Jamila: Stop it! Okay, but that doesn't mean seeing these guys as heroes, or buying an expensive bunch of flowers when they die, or writing Post-it stickers.

John: That's personal. I didn't do anything special when Steve Jobs died but I can understand that some people want to express their grief, want to show they are sad and pay homage.

Jamila: Just as when someone you know very well dies?

John: Yes. Someone you like very much.

Jamila: Okay. But there is more to a hero than selling mobile phones or playing football.

John: What for example?

Jamila: I don't know. Saving people's lives, risking your life or someone else or for your country, fighting for a cause. Things like that.

John: I agree. Perhaps that is the difference between admiring a person for their talent and worshipping a real hero. You have convinced me, Jamila.

Jamila: Really? Mmm, that's nice.
