All clubs will be responsible for numbering their own exhibits and the members for numbering themselves when necessary. Numbers must be firmly attached.

Current membership cards must be shown to the Stewards by the Competitors before each class. All membership numbers must be written next to the person named on the entry sheet in the Industrial Section.In each class, the Judge’s decision is final.

CLASS 1 – STOCKJUDGING–Thursday 12th May 2016by kind permission of Mitchells Auction Company, Cockermouth, 7.00pm PROMPT

No stockjudging cards will be given out to competitors after the judging has started. Competitors will only be allowed to communicate with the Judges and Stewards during the judging. Once a placing card has been handed to the Judge, it may NOT be returned. Failure to adhere to the rules will lead to disqualification. White coats must be worn by all competitors. General Stockjudging rules (except linear assessment): Inspection time = 15 minutes including handling. Reasons = 2 minutes. Time faults of 2 points per 15 seconds or part thereof. CLASS 2 – TRACTOR HANDLING

a)Junior – Pedal Tractor Handling –1 Competitor is required to manoeuvre a pedal tractor around a course within the time. The Judge will specify the time allowed on the day.

b)Open Land Rover Handling–Team consists of 2 members (1 male, 1 female)aged 17 and over. Both need driving licences with category F(which allows them to pull a trailer less than 2.45 metres wide with 2 wheels, or 4 close-coupled). Driving Licences must be shown to the Steward or competitors will not be able to compete. One Competitor required to drive the Land Rover and cattle trailer around an obstacle course, and the other Competitor to reverse back along the same course. Engine must be switched off in-between.

c)OpenTractor Handling (NAFD)– Competitors must be 16 years & over in a team of two. Driving Licences (Category F) must be shown on the day or Competitors will not be allowed to compete. One competitor is required to drive the tractor and trailer around an obstacle course, and one competitor to reverse back along the same course. Engine to be switched off in-between. Anyone driving in an unsafe manner will be stopped/disqualified by the Judge.

CLASS 3 – Mini Digger Driving

One member aged 17 years or over (on 1ST September2015) will be required to operate a mini digger as instructed by the Judge. Competitor must have a full Driving Licence which is to be shown on the day.

CLASS 4 – DRIVE IT HOME (NAFD)

A team shall consist of twomembers, to be 17 to 26 years of age on 1 September 2015. At least one competitor must hold a current UK Driving LicenCe (Provisional Licences accepted).

Part 1 (maximum time 20minutes). Both competitors will be individually asked to complete a road safety/hazard perception exercise.

Part 2 (maximum time 5 minutes). Both competitors will be asked to work as a team to explain to the judge the checks that should be routinely carried out to a road vehicle. These will include: coolant level, oil level, tyres/wheels, wipers/washers, lights, braking system and overall vehicle condition.

Part 3 (maximum time 20 minutes). Both competitors, as a team, to change a wheel on the vehicle provided. Competitors may, if they wish use their own hand tools (no power tools allowed).

Judges will have the right to stop the wheel change if the activity is unsafe for any reason, including potential damage to the vehicle.

CLASS 5 – FARM PLANNING

a)Farm Planning Exercise – Open –One member to complete an exercise and present to the Judge on the Field Day. A 5-minute verbal dissertation followed by 5 minutes of questions. PAPERto be handed into County Officeby Friday 22 April 2016 no later than 12noon. An ELECTRONIC copy must also be emailed to by the same deadline.

b)Mock Auction – One member to value items you may expect to see at a farm sale. To be held on Sunday 24th April 2016, Monk Foss Farm, Bootle by kind permission of the Wilson Family.

c)Auctioneering–Open – One member to auction an item randomly selected on the Field Day. Items will be selected by drawing a lot number.

CLASS 6–SHEEP SHEARING (NAFD)

a)Machine(NAFD) –Open – Team of 2. One competitor is to shear three sheep and the other competitor is to wrap the three fleeces. Competitors to bring their own hand piece, combs and cutters. Competitor must have a BLUE OR SILVER SEAL CERTIFICATE OF COMPETENCE. Eliminator to be held on Tuesday17thMay 2016 at 7.00pm PROMPT by kind permission of the Hetherington Family at Greenquarries, Rosley. Top 4 teams to re-compete at the Field Day.

b)Hand–Open – One member is required to shear two sheep and wrap two fleeces. Competitor is required to bring their own shears. Competitor must have a BLUE OR SILVER SEAL CERTIFICATE OF COMPETENCE. To be done at the Field Day – no eliminator.

CLASS 7 – GENERAL ANIMAL HEALTH QUESTIONNAIRE

Open –One member to complete a questionnaire on the day

CLASS 8 –SKILLS

a)Junior –To make a fruit and vegetable alien to the theme ‘Tomorrows World’. Competitor to provide ALL own materials and equipment. Maximum time 30 minutes.

b)Intermediate – Make a mask to the theme ‘Tomorrows World’. Competitor to provide ALL own materials and equipment. Maximum time 30 minutes.

c)Senior – Decorated egg to the theme ‘Tomorrows World’. Freehand only and no accessories allowed. Competitor to provide hard-boiled egg, ALL materials and equipment, e.g. Paints, brushes etc. Maximum time 30 minutes.

CLASS 9 –Pallet Challenge (NAFD)

Team of 2 – 1 male and 1 female; 1 intermediate and 1 open. Each team will be supplied with 2 pallets which they are to dismantle and make into an item which will be revealed on the day. The majority of the wood should be used in the construction. No staining, no painting, NO FINISH allowed. No power/battery tools, chainsaws or nail guns allowed. You must bring your own tools. Nails provided.Maximum time 1 hour.

Scheme of marking: Design=30, carpentry=40, overall appearance=30. Total marks=100.

Safety clothing must be worn – STEEL TOE CAP BOOTS, GLOVES AND GOGGLES.

CLASS 10 – Skiing

Team of 3(1 junior, 1intermediate, 1 senior at least 1 female)

Competitors to work together as a team to cross the finishing line in the fastest time.

CLASS 11 – CLUB EXHIBIT THEME “TOMORROW’S WORLD)” (NAFD)

An exhibitto depict the theme of “Tomorrows World” which can be interpreted in any way the club sees fit.Must include a minimum of one craft from each heading from the list below, with the other 2 crafts taken from any heading listed below:

  • Floral Art (floral displays)
  • Cookery (Food to be tasted and must be covered with cling film)
  • Handicraft (any other including decorated cake / photography / artwork

All FIVE crafts must be marked 1-5 together with the heading the craft comes under.

MAXIMUM size 1m x 1m x 1m. The measurement will be from the outside edges of the exhibit and the exhibit must have 3 walls. Any accessories or drapes on the outside of the cube will be included in the overall measurements of the exhibit.The outside walls of the exhibit may be painted a colour to compliment the overall exhibit. The external walls of the exhibit will not be marked.

The marking scheme can be seen in the NFYFC rules.

PARENTS, ADVISORY AND HELPERS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO HELP COMPETITORS TO SET THE EXHIBIT UP

CLASS 12 – FLORAL ART –OPEN MALE - TO THE THEME ‘SOLAR SYSTEM’

Maximum display allowed: 60cm wide x 60cm deep x unlimited height. Pre-cut and pre-soaked oasis is allowed. All the work of arranging and assembling of materials must be carried out during the competition. Competitors must wear white coats. Maximum time allowed 1 hour with a further 10 minutes to check that the arrangements have not been disturbed during clean up.FLOWERS MUST NOT BE PRE-CUT BEFORE THE COMPETITION. 20% OF MARKS WILL BE DEDUCTED IF IN THE JUDGES OPINION THE FLOWERS HAVE BEEN PRE-CUT

CLASS 13 – FLORAL ART – THEME “TOMORROW’S WORLD”(NFYFC)

FLOWERS MUST NOT BE PRE-CUT BEFORE THE COMPETITION. 20% OF MARKS WILL BE DEDUCTED IF IN THE JUDGES OPINION THE FLOWERS HAVE BEEN PRE-CUT.

MUST COMPLY WITH NFYFC RULES.

a)Junior –Subject:Contemporary Design Petit Exhibit. Title: The Digital Age

The maximum display area for each Competitor MUST NOT exceed 25cm wide x 25cm deep x 25cm height.Exhibits to be composed of natural plant material, with or without accessories. Exhibits to be viewed from all sides, base boards are allowed if desired and supplied by Competitor and must adhere to the size limitations but backboards NOT allowed. Refer to NFYFC rules for full details.All the work assembling and arranging the materials must be carried out on the day. Competitors must wear white coats. Maximum time 1 hour.

b)Intermediate– Subject: Contemporary Design Hand Tied Bouquet. Title: The Space Age

The exhibit must be suitable to stand freely with the stems and binding clearly visible. The maximum display area for each competitor MUST NOT exceed 60cm wide x 60cm deep x optional height. Exhibits to be composed of natural plant material, with or without accessories. Exhibits to be viewed from all sides, base boards are allowed if desired and supplied by Competitor and must adhere to the size limitations but backboards NOT allowed. Refer to NFYFC rules for full details. All the work assembling and arranging the materials must be carried out on the day. Competitors must wear white coats. Maximum time 1 hour.

c)Senior– Subject: Contemporary Design Underwater Exhibit. Title: Into the Deep Unknown

Exhibits to have some or all parts submerged to create interest by magnification or distortion. The maximum display area for each competitor MUST NOT exceed 60cm wide x 60cm deep x optional height (i.e. no limitations to height). Exhibits to be composed of natural plant material, with or without accessories. Exhibits to be viewed from all sides. Baseboard allowed if desired and supplied by Competitor and must adhere to the size limitations but backboards NOT allowed. NFYFC rules for full details. All the work assembling and arranging the materials must be carried out on the day. Competitors must wear white coats. Maximum 1 hour Competitors will be given a further 5 minutes to clear and tidy the work site.

CLASS 14 – COOKERY– Theme “TOMORROWS WORLD” (NFYFC)

Team of 3 members (1 junior, 1 intermediate & 1 senior). Each team will be required to prepare and display 4 dishes to the theme ‘Tomorrows World’. Must include at least one sweet and one savoury dish, and each dish must serve two. Several culinary components may form one “dish”. For example a sweet/savoury plus sauce/vegetable/berries is one dish. A drink does not count as a dish and will not be scored but may be included. Competitors must use two butane gas stoves (please refer to NFYFC rules for photos and details of the types of gas stoves permitted). Cookery and display to be completed within 1 hour, including tidying up. Display must contain a menu card and details or recipes and costings and description of how their exhibit fits the theme: ‘Tomorrows World’.Recipes must be available throughout the practical session for judges to inspect. MAXIMUM display space 90cm wide x 60cm depth x unlimited height.

Competitors must wear white coats, hair nets and suitable shoes. For the full marking scheme refer to NFYFC rules.Please note – questionnaire has been omitted as per NFYFC rules.

CLASS 15: JUNIOR CAKE DECORATING THEME ‘TOMORROWS WORLD’ (NAFD & NFYFC)

One competitor aged 16years and under.

Competitors will have one and a half hours on the day of the competition to decorate a cake or cake dummy to the theme “Tomorrows World” within the maximum size dimensions of 15 inches (38cm) x 15 inches. The depth of cake/cake dummy is unlimited and tiers may be used but must remain within the maximum size dimensions.

Scheme of marking: feature decoration=40, craftsmanship (e.g. skill in piping) =20, originality and creativity=10, suitability of design and relevance to the theme=10, overall presentation and finish=20. Total marks=100.

CLASS 16 – CUMBERLAND AND WESTMORLAND WRESTLING

Certificate of attendance MUST be completed and signed prior to the Field Day. To be shown on the day in order to compete – this includes experienced competitors.***MUST HAVE BEEN THIS YEAR***

APPROPRIATE CLOTHING MUST BE WORN E.G. TRACKSUIT BOTTOMS OR SHORTS AND T-SHIRTS. NO JEANS TO BE WORN.

CLASS 17 – TUG OF WAR (NAFD & NFYFC)

Please note: clothing worn for competing must also be worn at weigh in. Boots may be removed. NFYFC RULES APPLY – INCLUDING FOOTWEAR. Failure to adhere to NFYFC rules will result in disqualification.

a)Men’s – Team of 8. No more than two members of the team shall be between the ages of 15 and under 17 on 1st September 2015 and the remainder of the team must be between 17 years and 26 years. All teams must weigh in before the competition commences, and the combined team weight must not exceed 680kg.ELIMINATOR to be held on Sunday 24th April at the Mock Auction at Monk Foss Farm, Bootle. The competition will run as a round robin and top 4 teams will compete at the field day. Appropriate footwear should be worn – no steel toe capped boots.

b)Ladies – Team of 8. No more than two members of the team shall be between the ages of 15 and under 17 on 1st September 2015 and the remained of the team must be between 17 years and 26 years. All teams must weigh in before the competition commences, and the combined team weight must not exceed 580kg. ELIMINATOR to be held on Sunday 24th April at the Mock Auction at Monk Foss Farm, Bootle. The competition will run as a round robin and top 4 teams will compete at the field day. Appropriate footwear should be worn – no steel toe capped boots.

c)Mixed 12 – 16 years (on 1st Sept 2015) –A team shall consist of between 7 and 10 pulling members male or female who must be 12 years of age and over on the day of the competition and 16 years of age and under on 1st September 2015. This means competitors MUST have attained their 12th birthday on 1st September 2015 and may be 17 on the day of the competition.All teams must weigh in before the competition commences, and the combined team weight must not exceed 560kg. For every girl on the team, the weight can increase by 10kg up to a MAXIMUM 600kg. ELIMINATOR to be held on Sunday 24th April at the Mock Auction at Monk Foss Farm, Bootle. The competition will run as a round robin and top 4 teams will compete at the field day. Appropriate footwear should be worn – no steel toe capped boots.

CLASS 18 – ARM WRESTLING

Competitors must be aged 16 years or over.

CLASS 21 – ADVISORY RACE “ALIENS FANCY DRESS”

Team of 2 Advisory or Club Leaders to dress up to the theme “ALIENS”. 50% of marks for the fancy dress and 50% for the race. Race to be completed in full fancy dress.
