About the Cranston Rotary Club
What are the benefits of being a Rotarian? The benefits include serving the community, networking and friendships, promoting ethics and leadership skills.We are a charitable organization comprised of business and professional leaders dedicated to serving through volunteerism in our community. Our club meets weekly for a lunch meeting with the board members additionally holding a monthly morning meeting. The Cranston Rotary Club has worked on projects relating to hunger, health, environmental concerns, literacy, vocational assistance, drug abuse, and assistance for youth, the developmentally disabled and the elderly.

About Rotary International
What would it take to change the world? Each local Rotary Club is part of a much larger organization, Rotary International, which first began in Chicago, Illinois on February 23, 1905.
Rotary International is the world's first service club organization, with more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide. Rotary club members are volunteers who work locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio under the motto Service above Self.

Community Service Scholarship
The “Cranston Rotary Club Community Service” Scholarship Grant was established to assist graduating seniors from each of the three area high schools to pursue a two or four year collegiate degree. One senior from Cranston High School East, Cranston High School West and the CranstonAreaCareer & TechnicalCenter, will be eligible to receive a “Cranston Rotary Club Community Service” Scholarship each year if all the criteria outlined below are met.
Criteria:
Applicants must meet each of the following criteria:
- A minimum of 20hours of community service in their senior year. ( a portion of these hours could be fulfilled the summer proceeding their senior year)
- A letter of verification from the community service provider or a school educational professional (i.e. guidance counselor)
- Verification of a 3.0 overall GPA
- A copy of the acceptance letter from the school you are planning to attend
- A short essay on one of your most positive service-oriented or educational experiences during your High School years
- Two letter of recommendation (one from your guidance counselor & one from your community service organization)

Application Review Process:
Applications must be postmarked byApril 16, 2010. Late applications will not be accepted. Applications that meet the criteria outlined above will be forwarded to the Cranston Rotary Executive Board for review at their May 4, 2010meeting. There will have aluncheon award ceremony on May 26, 2009.Details regarding the ceremony will be provided to the school at a later date.
