THE COUNTY OF CUMBRIA (ALLERDALE AREA)

(CHARGING FOR PERMITS) VARIATION ORDER 20<

1.  The Cumbria County Council hereby give notice that it proposes to make the above Order under Sections 1, 2, 19, 32, 35, 35A, 38, 45, 46, 47, 49, 51, 53 and 64 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

2.  The effect of the proposed Order will be to vary the following Traffic Regulation Orders, in order to introduce an annual charge of £20.00, to be known as the Permit Charge, for the issue of each Residents (exemption) Permit, as agreed by the Council’s Cabinet on 15 May 2014: -

The County of Cumbria (Various Roads, Workington and Surrounding Area) (Consolidation and Provision of Traffic Regulations) Order 2012;

The County of Cumbria (Various Roads, Keswick and Surrounding Area) (Consolidation and Provision of Traffic Regulations) Order 2012;

The County of Cumbria (Various Roads, Maryport and Surrounding Area) (Traffic Regulations) Order 2014;

The County of Cumbria (Various Roads, North Allerdale) (Consolidation and Provision of Traffic Regulations) Order 2014; and

The County of Cumbria (Various Roads, Cockermouth and Surrounding Area) (Traffic Regulation) Order 2014.

NB: (a) It is not intended to charge for the issue of replacement residents permits on the occurrence of any of the following events: -

(i)  The permit is mutilated or defaced or the figures or particulars thereon have become illegible or the colour of the permit has been altered by fading or otherwise;

(ii)  The permit is lost or destroyed;

(iii)  The permit holder changes his/her vehicle, providing the vehicle is still registered to the same address;

(iv)  The permit holder moves address, whereupon the replacement permit will only be issued for the remaining months of the permit’s duration.

(b) Where a resident moves to an area outside an existing permit scheme, a refund will be made for each complete quarter year period remaining on the residents permit, upon receipt of the permit for surrender.

3.  Full details of the proposed Order and a statement of the Council's reasons for proposing to make the Order and a copy of the Orders to be varied, as referred to at paragraph 2 above, may be inspected

at: -

(a)  Allerdale Borough Council Offices, Allerdale House, Workington;

(b)  Maryport Town Council Offices, Town Hall, Senhouse Street, Maryport;

(c)  Wigton Local Links, Community Office, Market Hall, Church Street, Wigton;

(d)  Tourist Information Centre, 4 Old Kings Arms Lane, Cockermouth; and

(e)  Keswick Town Council, 50 Main Street, Keswick;

during normal working/opening hours.
