Hello all,

It’s so nice to have so much light in the evenings that I hope we can ignore how variable and bad the weather has been during the last few months and be grateful for those warm weather days.

The club competitions and instruction sessions have been quite well supported although there have been some glitches. Please read the section on our impending eviction from Gardyne if we don’t get our act in order.

The main schedules that are included within this newsletter include the entry forms for Dressage league 3 & 4 and the Combined Training.

The Club field at Gardyne

During recent events there have been problems with members using the club field at Gardyne. Parking issues are restricting the access of some homeowners and even worse some members are irresponsibly cleaning out their trailers and leaving their mess behind. To ensure we can keep using this field and parking can you please ensure that you consider the access of others when you park and always pick up your rubbish and your horses before you leave? Thank you.

Summer Show

The Summer Show went well with lower entries than last year but a good turnout none the less. We were certainly blessed with the weather. The Supreme Championship, which was introduced this year, was awarded to Suzanne Cargill. Suzanne donated the Brian Andrew Gordon Cup this year in memory of her father so it is rather fitting that she was the first to receive it and although Suzanne feels slightly embarrassed about winning the trophy she was a worthy winner. Our grateful thanks go to Mr. Carl Lothian, a founding member of SDRC for judging the Championship and presenting the trophy.

A very big thank you has to go to all those who helped but especially Lorraine Young and Cameron

Miller who very kindly judged at the last minute when a judge didn’t arrive.

Feedback & Suggestions

We have received a lot of positive feedback on the Summer Show this year and many suggestions which provide opportunities for improvements and additional classes. This will be discussed at the next committee meeting on 8th August 2005.

We would like to take this opportunity to consider the options to improve not only the Summer Show but all events. Can you please provide your feedback and any issues that you wish raised to Lisa Strang or any committee member by the 5th of August?

Irish Trip

The Race Night held on Friday, 27th May 2005 at Guthrie Village Hall was a huge success. The hall was filled to capacity and everyone had a great night. The old-fashioned wind-up horses were great fun to watch and there was fierce bidding going on to buy the horses. Those who are going to Ireland want to thank everyone who contributed to make the night go so well and to give their grateful thanks for all the monies raised.

Update on Irish Trip.

The team did exceptionally well and were placed 3rd overall. This was a great achievement considering the competition and a higher placing than our wonderful performance last year when we were 5th overall.

Horse of The Year Show 2005

You have the opportunity to attend HOYS at a very fair rate of £142.80 which includes Bed & Breakfast on Friday and Saturday evening, tickets for the performances on Saturday morning and evening performance and transport to and from HOYS. This price is based on a 50 seater bus (£25 per head for transport). George may also price a smaller bus if numbers require. Costs would be approx £25 extra. The numbers must be finalized by 31st July.

A deposit of £72.80 is required by 31st July. Please contact George Whitton to confirm your booking.

Summer Instruction

Regular sessions of instruction have been organised at Gardyne throughout the summer to align with the Showjumping and Dressage Leagues. Requests have been made for these sessions to be held before competitions. We are considering moving the dates but must ensure if the dates are changed that no competitive advantage is given to members that undertake instruction prior to the competitions. In other words for SJ competitions the course which you practice over will not be the same as that which you compete over. Common sense really!

Please pass on your comments via the web, to a committee member or to the organiser.

Cross Country Instruction

The cross country instruction was cancelled due to the weather. It is hoped to run this before the SDRC Hunter Trials in October 2005 if there is sufficient interest.

Use of the Field at Gardyne

Members can use the field at Gardyne at any time over the summer. Please phone Debbie Low on 01241-828752 to arrange. Debbie will make sure that the ground conditions are okay and that the field is not being used by anyone else. For health & safety reasons you cannot use the field if you are on your own.
