CHURCH CLEANING

This week Mary Hallett & Tony Archer, thank you.

RCIA: Rite of Sending / Election

This Sunday, we celebrate the Rite of Signing and Sending Forth, formally affirming the readiness of our catechumens Laura Langmead and Spencer Greaves to be named by our Archbishop as members of the Elect—those chosen by God for baptism—and to pray for our candidates’ continued growth in the Spirit. We also celebrate the Rite of Sending Forth, affirming the readiness of our candidate Christopher Hattrell to be received into Full Communion with the Catholic Church. Next Saturday we will journey to the Cathedral to celebrate the Rite of Election (of the catechumens – those preparing for baptism) and the Call to Continuing Conversion (of the candidates – those who are baptised but have not celebrated the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist) with Cardinal Vincent.

LIFT UP YOUR HEARTS IN LENT 2016
We need constantly to contemplate the mystery of mercy. It is a wellspring of joy, serenity, and peace. Our salvation depends on it (Pope Francis).
Inspired by Pope Francis’ constant efforts to highlight mercy, the Lent 2016
“At your word Lord” small group resource will explore mercy's roots in the love of the Father, Christ’s crucifixion and the work of the Holy Spirit within each one of us. Lift up your Hearts will help us to reflect on the parables devoted to mercy as well as the Gospel accounts of personal encounters with Jesus, who embodied Divine Mercy. We will consider how Jesus Christ modelled mercy and invites us to turn to his healing embrace with a contrite heart. In turn, we are to imitate Christ through the course of daily living in our homes and communities, to be disciples and missionaries of mercy.
Lift up your Hearts is comprised of six sessions in Lent, each of which includes prayers, Scripture, a reflection and questions plus a work of art, included as a key feature of each session. Please consider joining a small group this Lent. Each session stands alone, so there is no problem in missing sessions. Details of days, times, venues and contact details are:

I BELIEVE IN ONE, HOLY, CATHOLIC AND APOSTOLIC CHURCH

145. Q. Why does Jesus want there to be Christians who live their whole lives in poverty, unmarried chastity and obedience?

A.  God is love. He longs for our love also. One form of loving surrender to God is to live as Jesus did –poor, chaste and obedient. Someone who lives in this way has head, heart and hands free for God and neighbour. In every age individual Christians let themselves be completely taken over by Jesus, so that “for the sake of the kingdom of heaven” (Mt 19:12) they give everything away for God - even such wonderful gifts as their own property, self-determination and married love. This life according to the Evangelical Counsels in poverty, chastity and obedience shows all Christians that the world is not everything, Only an encounter with the divine Bridegroom “face to face” will ultimately make a person happy.
