Job Title: Qualitative Researcher

Function: Practice Development

Team: Development & Research

Accountable to: Research Adviser

Main Purpose of the role:

A Qualitative Researcher is sought to lead the management and analysis of survey data, form it into themed researchable questions and verify them against the evidence base. This role will involve working with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) in a James Lind Alliance (JLA) physiotherapy Priority Setting Partnership (PSP).
The timescale/contract
We estimate that this work will take approximately 30 non-consecutive days.
The role will begin in March 2017 with preliminary evidence searches (approximately 5 days). The main analysis work will be undertaken from June until September 2017 (approximately 25 days).
The work would be carried out through a contract between the CSP and the individual at an agreed daily rate

Main duties and responsibilities:

1. / Contribute to the development of a survey that will collect stakeholders uncertainties/unanswered questions about clinical practice, service delivery, workforce development and policy
2. / Clean and organise the raw data from the initial online PSP survey
3. / Undertake thematic analysis to categorise data
4. / Identify common themes within categories and collate into broad research questions
5. / Format into clear understandable research questions using appropriate formats, for example PICO (Patient, Intervention, Comparator and Outcome) format
6. / Review relevant systematic reviews and guidelines, and any other relevant sources of evidence to identify unanswered questions and uncertainties
7. / Check the formatted questions against the evidence base, noting true uncertainties and those that are answered by a reliable evidence base
8. / Prepare a long list of verified uncertainties for interim prioritisation
9. / Prepare the final spreadsheet of the verified uncertainties, including any amendments made during the prioritisation process, for entry on the JLA website
10. / Provide regular updates of progress to the project team and Steering Group and work within overall timescales agreed across the PSP
