The Center for Community Partnerships

The Center for Community Partnerships(CCP) develops, facilitates and supports university-community partnershipsthat strengthen communities inCentral Florida. A majorthrust of thecenter is to develop long-term partnerships between the College of Health and Public Affairs, other colleges across the University of Central Florida, and the Central Florida community.

The Center for Community Partnerships (CCP) strives to inspire students to play a role in the Orlando community through volunteerism. The CCP Volunteer Center offers volunteer opportunities to UCF students at partnering organizations across the region. These volunteer opportunities provide students with a chance to make impact on their community and themselves through the power of service. By being civically engaged, volunteers will learn important skills such as leadership and communication.

The process to become a volunteer is quite simple:

  • Once you have done so, an email will be sent to you with more details about the selected program to help you get a better understanding of the volunteer opportunity.
  • We will then connect you with the organization and get you started.

Please note: All student volunteers who serve with Orange County Public Schools must complete the background check via the following link prior to volunteering:

Opportunities for Student Volunteers

Evans Community School ∙ A Community Partnership School, located in the heart of Central Florida on the Evans High School campus, opened in August 2011 to offer student-centered, family-focused and school-based wraparound services to Evans High School students, their families, and community members in the surrounding Pine Hills neighborhood. Programs include mentoring, tutoring, and facilitating service-learning curriculum.

Tutoring: individualized instruction through guided discovery or cognitive apprenticeship (Collins, 2006).

Mentoring: a relationship between an advanced professional incumbent (mentor) and beginner (protégé) whereby knowledge in career is passed from mentor to protégé transforming the protégé to become self-directed (Erikson, 1963).

Service-learning: an educational approach that balances formal instruction and direction with the opportunity to serve in the community in order to provide a pragmatic, progressive learning experience. Service-Learning must properly connect the traditional classroom experience with the real life lessons that come through service (Dewey, 1935; 1959).
