Dear Sisters of the League:
I am once again very happy to welcome all of you to our 96th Annual Convention in my role as Spiritual Advisor of the Kingston Diocesan Council. Our Convention’s theme will be one that truly touches our hearts and that is: Inspired by the Spirit, Women Respond to God’s Call.
It is a fitting one, as we continue to celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus on the 6th Sunday at Easter during the Convention.
In the Acts of the Apostles, we read, “While Peter was still speaking, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who heard the Word”. [It went on to say “Believers who had come with Peter were astounded that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles.”] God has a plan to inspire all of us by the Spirit, particularly the women of faith who will be attending this Convention.
I would like to thank all those who have been inspired by the Spirit to give of themselves to assist in the preparation to celebrate this Convention. This would include the Diocesan Council Executive as well as the Council of St. Mary’s Parish in Carleton Place. They have more than responded to the call placed upon their hearts by the Holy Spirit to prepare for this 96th Convention.
Yours in Jesus and in Our Lady of Good Counsel,
Yours in Christ,
Fr. Dale Wright
Diocesan Spiritual Adviser
Dear Sisters in the League,
It is with great pleasure that I extend an invitation to each of you to attend the 96th Annual Convention of the Kingston Diocesan Council of The Catholic Women’s League of Canada, to be held on Saturday, May 5th and Sunday, May 6th, 2018 at the Ambassador Hotel and Conference Centre, Kingston.
Our National theme, “Inspired by the Spirit, Women Respond to God’s Call”, continues to invite us to recognize the invitation and even the nudging of the Holy Spirit as we do the work of the League. Anne Madden, our provincial president, has asked us to focus on the complicated issue of homelessness. In our parish councils many of us have already learned more about the issue as it exists in our own communities. As we come together at convention, various presenters will give us insight into how homelessness intersects with poverty, mental health and other social issues.
In faith, I know that as we gather together on May 5th and 6th, the Spirit will speak to us through the words of presenters, the conversations with sisters in the League and most importantly through the liturgies celebrated together. The Masses, the Crowning of the Statue of Mary, and the Living Rosary always bond us in faith and love.
We are very grateful to our host council, St. Mary, Carleton Place. There is so much work involved and so many details that go into preparing a convention. Annette Meadows and her committee are doing it all! Expect to be greeted with a warm welcome and hospitality plus!
I sincerely hope you and other members of your council accept this invitation to join with your sisters across the diocese to participate in a weekend that promises spiritual growth, inspiration and renewal. I look forward to seeing you at the convention and pray that Our Lady of Good Counsel continues to bless us in our endeavours for God and Canada.

January 2018
Dear Sisters in Christ,
Let me start by expressing my unalloyed gratitude to all of you for being joyful and dedicated Catholic women of faith, who have embraced God’s gift of faith and service in the church and in our society. Despite the difficult challenges facing the Church and today’s society, you have remained steadfast and dedicated to our local Church in the archdiocese of Kingston, in your parishes and communities, as well as in the wider Church in Canada.
I also especially commend your unwavering efforts to foster a culture of life from conception to its natural end.Your practical and prayerful initiatives to promote the culture of life in our communities and country are commendable and symptomatic of your love for God, the Church and our society. You have never been afraid in the wise approach you take to engage in the public square as Catholic women of faith and substance. In this you are a model for all of us.
As we prepare to gather for the annual diocesan CWL convention in 2018, our council at St Mary of the Ransom Carleton Place is honored to serve as host this year. I and all the members of our council wish to invite you to this Spirit-filled sisterly event. We hope that you will take time off your busy schedules to participate in this convention of renewal, faith and fellowship.
With joy and enthusiasm, our council is looking forward to hosting this propitious event. It is a great privilege and honor for us to be part of this gathering of Catholic women of faith and action.
Once again thank you for all you do for the church and for our fragile world. May Mary our lady of Ransom intercede for us all.
God bless you.
Yours in Christ,
Fr. Cosmas Ajawara
