Job Opportunity - Executive Director

The Caribbean Electric Utility Services Corporation (CARILEC) seeks an Executive Director. CARILEC is an association of electric utilities, suppliers, manufactures and other stakeholders operating in the electricity industry in the Caribbean since 1989. The CARILEC Secretariat strives to enhance communication among its members and to serve as the focal point for general and technical information. The Secretariat takes the lead in advocating for change in the electric utility industry in the Caribbean and in this regard, provides support, information and a range of services to members and stakeholders.

The Role

The Executive Director leads a team of 12 at the CARILEC Secretariat which is based in St. Lucia. The Executive Director is expected to develop and maintain good working relationships with utility executives, regional decision-makers, business community leaders, interest groups and the media ensuring that consistent information is provided.

This individual will co-ordinate all of CARILEC’s member relations, public relations and advertising activities and will ensure that the Association’s role of advocacy on electric utilities and energy issues is effectively executed.

The Executive Director advises the board on aspects of CARILEC’s operations and plans. This individual will prepare business plans and reports for the Board’s consideration and will implement strategies and manage the organisation or achieve the targets set. The Executive Director acts as Company Secretary and Treasurer for the organization.

The Executive Director will be required to travel extensively throughout the region.

The Candidate

The candidate should possess a postgraduate degree in Business Administration, Management Studies or a related field with 10 years’ minimum experience functioning in a senior executive capacity in the energy sector. Previous experience in the operations of an electric utility and regional and/or international exposure will be assets.

The candidate will have excellent oral and written communication skills including making presentations and reporting. Excellent interpersonal skills are also essential.

The candidate for this job must have outstanding leadership skills and strategic management skills.

The successful candidate needs to have a high degree of computer literacy skills in a range of business applications including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
