The ‘Cara effect’ has seen a surge in sales of eyebrow growth products, according to new figures.

A study which asked 2,000 women about their most desired eyebrow shape revealed a significant preference for a bushier style, as made popular by Cara Delevingne.

The 22 year old fashion model appeared among the likes of Rita Ora and Keira Knightley in a list of most coveted eyebrows, with the crown for best frown going to Harry Potter star Emma Watson.

Growing popularity of the thick-browed look coincides with new figures from feelunique.com, which commissioned the study following a surge in the sale of eyebrow grooming and treatment products in the last year. The retailer has seen a +250% increase in sales for Brow products.

A feelunique.com spokeswoman said: “Brows have become a part of most women’s beauty routine, from growth enhancing products to defining make up products.

The category is hugely on trend - we see the most influential icons including Cara and Kate Middleton both sporting a much bushier, more natural but very groomed brow and our customers nationwide are following suit.

“Last year we were selling products for shape-related brows but this has developed this year to include a focus on strong brow definition.

Thicker is definitely the desired look – our sales of our eyebrow enhancing serums have sky-rocketed – an increase of over 200% - while our most searched for brow product on the site is still brow pencils followed by brow gel.”

The research showed 36 per cent of women confessed to growing out their eyebrows in the last couple of years to keep up with the bushier style.

Almost half (48 per cent) expressed a preference for the fuller eyebrows made popular by stars of today, saying they take less work to tame and are a sure-fire way of looking fashionable.

Other most desirable frowns in the poll included those of Royal icon Kate Middleton, ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ judge Amanda Holden and pop diva Beyonce.

The high-def brows of former soap star Michelle Keegan as well as the dark brows of Eastenders bar tender Maddy Hill were also named.

While the preened arches of Kim Kardashian, Rochelle Humes and Downton’s Jessica Brown Findlay also made the top 20.

Almost three in ten women admitted they’d replicated eyebrow trends through the decades, from the bushy Madonna-style brow of the 80s to the skinny line of the 1990s.

Though 16 per cent named the slim-line brow famously donned by Pamela Anderson in the 90s as a ‘classic’ twice as many (38 per cent) said the look has become ‘dated’ and also aged the face.

And keeping thicker eyebrows tamed is important it seems – with threading, styling gels and dying among the methods they use to keep them trim.

One in seven said they get regular waxes or threading treatments for their brows - while one in ten confessed to tweezing everywhere from public toilets to commuter trains.

Those keen on facial grooming spend an average £84 a year on beautifying their brows.

With a committed one in ten who confessed to spending between 10 minutes and half an hour defining their brows before a night out.

As well as drawn-in lines, the women polled said the worst eyebrow faux pas was having brows too dark for their hair colour, with 28 per cent who said too deep an arch is an unattractive look.

But the bushier the better is today’s mantra it seems – as appearing just outside the top 20 list of desired looks were the unkempt brows of Lorde, FKA Twigs and Lily Collins.

The feelunique.com spokeswoman said, ‘’Since so many of us from the over-tweezed era need help, an entirely new category of beauty products has been created: eyebrow growth treatments.

‘’The results largely depend on how much damage you’ve inflicted on your hair follicles over the years.’’
