Choose one of the following suggestions or design one of your own (must be approved by your teacher) as your final project forTheCall of the WildUnit.Read each description carefully and thoroughly.Consider how you will connect the novel to the tones listed below.Each chapter and tone must be clearly identified within your project.
* Be creative and artistic!Presentation is just as important as content.
**Tone:The writer's attitude toward his or her audience and subject. The words he/she uses establishes the tone of the piece. Examples of adjectives describing tone:
Formal-words used such as: shall, surely, certainly, etc.
Informal-common, every day words used
Serious- the tone is very staid and strong; no humor evident
Playful- words used such as: happy, fun, joking, etc.
Bitter- the writer used words like hate, unforgiving, upset
Ironic-twists and turns in the story; what you expect to happen doesn't happen
Cynical- complaints, negative statements about people, places, things
Sarcastic- words that say one thing but mean the opposite
Defiant-angry words such as: regret, rebellion, hate, etc.
Determined-strong words of success: will, shall, indeed, succeed, certain
Enduring-words such as: try, stick it out, fight, win, trudge on, never give up
Confident-words that show positive outlook; sure, indeed, you can do it
Dedicated-strong words about sticking with it: stay with it; keep going; don't give up
Hopeful- positive words; hope, future, change, positive
Joyous- positive words; great, wonderful, exult
Reminiscent-words that look back to better days; good old days, past, better than, etc.
Melancholic- sad words are used; dreary, sad, dark, cloudy, depressed, tears, cry, etc.
Dark- depressing words: depression, black, no future, death, murder, kill, etc.
Mysterious-words such as: mystery, questionable, doubtful
Exciting-words such as: celebrate, travel, fast, move, quick, surprise, wow
Adventurous-words and situations such as: expedition, trip, curious, odyssey, journey
1)Soundtrack:
Designa soundtrack for the book.Createa list of 7 songs (one for each chapter).For each song or musical piece,includethe original lyrics or a description of the music and what tone it sets as it relates to the chapter.Choosea different tone for each chapter (see list of tones).Writea description as to why you think each song relates to the chapter and the tone it sets.Usea quote from the book to help connect the chapter to the song.It can be a song about love, loss, missing someone/something, adventure, enemies, companionship, etc.The song lyrics must be appropriate, which means no profanities or questionable subject matter.Use of such lyrics will result in an automatic failure of the project.The song should clearly illustrate the tone set in the chapter.
Requirements:

_____ A paragraph explanation for each that includes the tone of the chapter, at least one quote from the book toconnect the song and chapter, use of lyrics to explain rationale.

2)PowerPoint Presentation:
Createa PowerPoint presentation incorporating each of the seven chapters.
Requirements:
Cover slide:title, author, name, class, date(Do this once)
Slide 1.Title of chapter and Setting (time + place = mood)
Slide 2.Characters and two words to describe each one
Slide 3.Tone (see examples)
Slide 4.Use a quote or excerpt from the book (Include page number) to illustrate character, setting, or mood.
Slide 5.Plot summary: give a paragraph summary of what happened in the chapter
Slide 6.Insert a picture or pictures that depicts main idea of the chapter
Slide 7. Extra slide: interesting to you personally: quotes, pictures, history of Gold Rush, etc.
3)Poetry Book:
Createa book of 7 poems (one for each chapter), using different types of poetry (Haiku, Limerick, Cinquain, Acrostic, Concrete, Free/Open Verse, Closed Form, Open Form etc.).For each poemincludewhat tone it sets as it relates to the chapter.Choosea different tone for each chapter (see list of tones).
Requirements:

4)Buck’s Journal (journey map):
Createa Journal for Buck’s journey throughout the novel. Create 7 journal entries, one for each chapter. For each journal entryincludean estimated date and Buck’s location as well as the tone that you will be highlighting with your writing.Your entry must then relate to your chosen tone and reflect on the events that are occurring to Buck in the particular chapter.

______Minimum one paragraph (six sentences) journal entry, from the perspective of Buck.
