The purpose of this project is to encourage families to read with their children by providing gently-used children’s books to patrons of our local food bank. The project will run from February 14th until March 14th. Books should be appropriate for ages infant to twelve. There will be a book bin placed in the Parish Hall where families can drop off books on Sunday mornings.

PWRDF

VOICES OF HOPE CANADA

As families continue the long and arduous task of rebuilding after the Fort McMurray wildfire, parents have reported high levels of prolonged stress. So the Anglican parishes of All Saints and ST. Thomas Fort McMurray partnered with ON EAGLE's WINGS (OEW) to provide Bible Camps for chilldren ages 4 to 10. The camps took place over 5 days in August of 2016 and again in 2017.

The camps were designed to assist children in recovery and readjustment after the trauma of the fires and evacuation and where homes were lost, through the rebuilding process. To make the camps accessible to all children they were operated on a drop-in basis with no charge. PWRDF was vital in covering the cost of the camps thus ensuring that fees would not be a barrier to children participating. Supplies were donated by individuals and congregations who support OEW's ministries in the North. All Saints and St. Thomas provided a venue for the camp as well as snacks, janitorial, help, hospitality and accommodations for the camp's team, and promotion of the camps.

Rev. Leslie Hand, executive director of OEW said “Parents expressed deep gratitude that the camps offered them some respite time and relaxation, confident that their children were having fun in a safe and spiritually enriching environment”

The spiritual and emotional needs of the children were met through the loving presence of God through God's word and age appropriate activities. The ministry of presence was provided by the leadership team made up mostly of youth and adult volunteers from OEW and the 2 Anglican parishes.

This 3 way partnership made a large contribution to the healing and recovery process following these traumatic events in the lives of people.

For everyone born, a place at the table,

Foe everyone born, clean water and bread,

A shelter, a space, a safe place for growing,

For everyone born, a star overhead.

And God will delight when we are the creators

Of justice and joy and compassion and peace.

Yes, God will rejoice when we are creators

Of justice, justice and joy.
