FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB OF CAPECOD & THE 4-H OFFER FREE BABYSITTING PROGRAM STARTING NOV. 9

Why pay elsewhere when you can get the same quality 4-H program at the Boys &Girls Club of Cape Cod for free just by joining the Club? The Boys & Girls Club has teamed up with the 4-H to offer a Babysitting Training program for boys and girls in the 5th Grade and up. The program will teach new and experienced babysitters the basics skills to ensure that both they the young children that they will be watching have a positive experience. The course will cover the basic duties and responsibilities of a babysitter; child development, toys, basic first aid, home safety and fire prevention, tips on entertainment, nutrition, and more. The Babysitting class will run on Wednesdays from 4:30- 5:30 for nine weeks starting on November 9.

There is no fee for the course for members of the Boys & Girls Club of Cape Cod but for non-members the fee is $20. The non-member’s fee includes a $15 charge for membership in the Boys & Girls Club that provides access to all Club programs and facilities. The fee also includes the cost of the Babysitters Manual. Participants will be able to keep the babysitting manual to use when they work. Children should be entering 6th grade next year or be 11 years of age by the time the class starts.

“ We have been serving Cape youth since 1999 and are pleased to be able to work with the 4-H again to offer an opportunity to our young adults. The course is designed to provide important instruction and to help our young people develop a sense of responsibility and the skills needed to watch over younger kids,” said Ann Macdonald Dailey, president of the Board of Directors of the Boys & Girls Club of Cape Cod.

The Boys & Girls Club of Cape Cod is a nonprofit youth-serving organization that serves the entire Cape community. The Club offers after-school and evening programs for children ages 6-18, which are supervised by trained youth development professionals. They provide activities in character and leadership development; education and career development; health and life skills; the arts; and sports, fitness and recreation along with special and holiday programs and a summer day camp. Programs are designed to promote a sense of belonging, usefulness, influence and competence. Membership dues are kept low so that all young people can afford to join. In Boys & Girls Clubs, young people are encouraged to reach their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.

”We are very pleased to be collaborating with the 4-H to offer this practical course on babysitting. For many young adults, babysitting is their first experience in the world of work and we want to make sure that both they and the children that they will be watching have a safe and positive experience,” said Ruth Provost, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Cape Cod.
