The Boy Who Saved Baseball

Project ideas

Write a fan letter to Tom telling him your feelings about the big game and his hometown. Tell him your reaction to the end of the story. / Write newspaper articles for the town. Write articles about the big game, about the land development if the town loses and an article on the key baseball players. / Develop a board game based around the book. Who are the players in the game, what challenges will the players face, what waits at the end of the game if you win? Think of games like (Monopoly, Life, Clue)
Create a broadcast. You will develop a podcast for the baseball game. You will be the commentators and tell everyone listening how the game is going. Does anyone try to steal home? Does anyone hit a homerun? You will have to use your book for the game but you can add your own style to this. / Create a set of baseball cards for the Dillontown Wildcats. Each player should get their own baseball card. Mention their stats: height, weight, position, the qualities the book lists. Then draw an illustration of the character based on descriptions from the book. ( You should have 9-10 cards) / Create your own Dreamsketcher. Tom uses his for doodling, writing and anything interesting he comes across throughout the day. Decorate the outside with things you think Tom would decorate his with. And write in your dreamsketcher just like Tom would.
Create a brochure for Dillontown. Highlight buildings and places in the town. Mention the history behind the town, the population, the school system. Your goal is to draw people into the town so they will want to live there. You must also use illustrations. (Think of brochures you’ve seen before. What made them so appealing?) / (3-4) Skit. You and a group of students choose your favorite chapter or scene from the book and develop a skit. You should develop a script of your own and rehearse this so you can present it in front of the class. Skit must be at least five minutes long. / Write an epilogue to the book that will follow The Boy Who Saved Baseball. Write at least three paragraphs leading into the next book.
Create an advertisementfor the big baseball game that Doc Altenheimer has proposed. Convince someone viewing the poster that the game is an exciting, once-in-a-lifetime event. Color your poster neatly and check your spelling and grammar. Include your name on the back of the poster.
Note: The two teams competing in the ball game are the Dillontown Wildcats (our heroes) and the Lake View Vikings. / (Partner)Pretend that you are a newspaper reporter, and you’re asked to interview Hollis B, the crazy man in Dillontown. Think of at least five questions that you would ask Hollis B. Then swap questions with your partner and you each should pretend to be Hollis B and answer the questions. / Cruz de la Cruz has disappeared! You’re responsible for making a “Missing Wildcat” poster to help locate Cruz. Use the space below to draw and color your poster. Some things to include: a picture of Cruz, a description of his appearance, a description of his personality, a picture and description of Cruz’s horse, and a mention of Cruz’s last known whereabouts.
