Christmas in July Scent Weekend, Cootamundra
hosted by Brian and Lesley Childs, Brialey Beagles

For beagles, a weekend of offlead running and sniffing around secure, fenced paddocks, plus the opportunity to socialise with other beagles. For humans, the chance to have a short break and some leisurely exercise in friendly company.

This year we are having Christmas in July at Cootamundra! Come and join the festivities!

When: From 11.30am, Saturday 8 July - To 12 noon, Sunday 9 July 2006. This is the 2nd weekend of the NSW state school holidays.

Where: Meet at Bimbadeen at 11.30-12 noon for lunch - bring your own. We will do two drag hunts and a long off lead walk. Back to Brian and Lesley’s for coffee and a snack, then free time for you to settle in to your accommodation. Dogs may be left at Brian and Lesley's if wanted. A three course Christmas dinner will be served at about 6.30pm, BYO drinks. Sunday morning 8.30am start at Bimbadeen, two more hunts and another walk. Those wishing to can head back to Brian and Lesley’s before heading off home about 12 noon.

Cost: $15 per person (covers the cost of Saturday night dinner and two property entry fees to Bimbadeen, excludes all other costs).

RSVP: Brian or Lesley by Friday 23 June. Participants must be members of The Beagle Club of NSW (you can join when you arrive at Cootamundra, $25 per family, see Brian or Lesley).

Confirmation: You must call Brian or Lesley the day before the weekend to confirm that the weekend is going ahead and that you will be coming. If there are insufficient numbers, the weekend may be cancelled. Please come and join the fun if you can.

Travel Time (from Campbelltown to Cootamundra): about 3-4 hours.

Directions (from Campbelltown to Cootamundra): Drive along F2 (Hume Highway) towards Yass. Approx 5kms after you drive past the turnoff to the Yass MacDonalds, turn right into Burley Griffin Way (to Harden, Temora, Cootamundra). Drive approx 50 mins to roundabout at Wallendbeen. Turn left and drive approx 18kms along Olympic Highway to Cootamundra. Watch out for 50km sign and Welcome to Cootamundra sign. Travel approx 200m. At Saleyards, turn left into Rinkin St. Drive to Bimbadeen. See map for final directions:

Food and Drink: For beagles, bring all their food, bowls, etc. Bring some water bottles. For humans, Saturday three course Christmas dinner is provided (this is included in $15 cost). BYO drinks. Please make your own arrangements if you have special dietary requirements and for all other meals (afternoon tea, breakfast, morning tea, lunch, snacks, etc). Bring some morning and afternoon tea you can share with everyone else. There are plenty of food shops in the main Cootamundra shopping area only a few minutes drive away.

Accommodation: For beagles, Brian and Lesley Childs are offering the use of their kennels free (Friday, Saturday, Sunday night). For humans, make your own arrangements and bookings. Here are some possibilities:

AEF Bimbadeen Conference Centre - Phone: (02) 69421129. Note that Bimbadeen will permit well-trained, crated beagles to sleep with you inside but you must ensure accommodation and grounds are clean before vacating. There are 2 bunkhouses, each with 10 bunks and kitchenette, $10 per bunk.

Program and Activities:

Saturday: Meet at Bimbadeen at 11.30am. We will gather and have lunch before we start. Bring your own lunch. We will have two drag hunts and a long off lead walk

Saturday afternoon: Coffee and a snack at Brian and Lesleys.

Saturday 6.30pm: Christmas in July! Three course Christmas Dinner hosted by Brian and Lesley Childs.

Sunday 8.30am: Meet at Bimbadeen, where we will have two more drag hunts and a shorter walk. For those who wish, come back to Brian and Lesley’s for a coffee before heading off home about 12 noon.

Weather: Temperature will be cold during the day and very cold at night. If Cootamundra weather is bad before the weekend (ie pouring with rain), the weekend will be cancelled. You must call Brian or Lesley the day before the weekend to confirm that the weekend is going ahead and that you will be coming.

Suggestions: BYO chairs, good walking shoes, rain gear, hat, beanie, crate, camera, and so on.
