The Battlefields of the Western Front: Part 2 -- Application Assignment
Learning Objective:
Put History in its place. Students will be able to utilize images of historical sites “Then and Now” from World War I to determine the extent to which Western Europe has be affected by the memory and events of World War I. Students will use virtual and image-based applications to collect primary source evidence to make an image overlay that supports their claim regarding the landscapes and importance of the war. Students will use this overlay as a case study for their reflection essay on the landscapes of World War I.
Directions:
1)Follow the link and type Ventura, CA. in the search box.

2) Look for the image of the Ventura Courthouse and the Anacapa Hotel
3) Search for France within the search box and see what locations near the Western Front
of WWI you can find. Remember to use the locations from last class.
4) Explore the 5 examples of historical images and determine how each uses the style of
Overlaying,Then and Now, and Layering.
5) Search for current and historical images of one of the locations from within the film and
create either a Overlay, Then and Now, or a Layering image. Make sure that you do not
copy someone elses work and be sure to record the (A) Location, (B) What the image is
of, and (C) The style of photograph collage.
6) Use this work as a case study source to write your summary and reflection essay on
one of the following two
