How to get there(courtesy of British Commonwealth War Graves Commission)

The village of Autre Eglise is situated to the south-east of Wavre off the N91 which runs between Louvain and Namur.

From Wavre or Namurfollow the motorway E411/A4 to Junction 11. Turn left here onto the N29 in the direction of Jodoigne.

Follow the N29 to the junction with the N91 and turn right onto the N91. (Chauseede Namur)

Follow the N91 to the village of Petit-Rosiere and directly before the railway crossing turn left onto Av Des Deportes.

Follow this road to the junction and carry straight on over the junction along the main road, round a right hand bend and over the railway to the fork.

Bear left at the fork in the direction of Autre-Eglise.

On entering the village follow the main road round to the right, named Rue De La Place, and then to a sharp right hand bend.

Take the left turn after the church into Rue de Foix-les-Caves, and the camp entrance is on your right.

The modern "plastic" camping is close by. Please come to the period camp for information.

Camping

The period camp will be set out in a similar style to military camps of the period (see the diagram below). The officers' tents (and any other large tents not intended for communal social use) should be at one end. The "A" shaped soldiers' tents are in lines to form streets in front of the officers' tents. At the other end are dining awnings, sutlers, kitchens, "mess tents" and cooking fires. If possible the fires will be downwind of the camp for safety. Fires should be roped off to deter public access.

Near the fire area will be a fire point with water buckets and fire extinguishers.

At the date of writing it is not clear where toilets and water point will be located.

RogerEmmerson of Holcroft Blood's Artillery is in charge of co-ordinating the camp. He will be one of the first to arrive.

Provisions and requirements

Toilets and drinking water, straw and firewood will be provided.

Food: Potatoes, meat, bread and vegetables will be provided for cooking on site for Saturday and Sunday only. Any other requirements should be brought with you. The village has a baker, but there is no store within walking distance. There are at least two bars.

Gunpowder: Powder will be provided.

Horses: A small number of horses has been booked for the Scottish Dragoons. Those who have a horse booked have already been advised.

First Aid: During the battle displays a Red Cross ambulance will be available. Will any qualified first-aiders please make themselves known to RogerEmmerson on arrival?

Security: When we are away from the camp for the battles, the camp will be closed to the public and guarded. At other times we will need to establish a system between those present so that the camp is not left unattended.

Money: We have a fixed budget which will be allocated according to the number of costumed participants from each group, weighted according to the distance travelled. It is expected to be able to pay between €25 and €50 per person, depending on final numbers.

Insurance: The event is insured. However, each re-enactment group must also have public liability insurance. The recommended minimum cover is €7,500,000.

And finally:

We now need your final numbers confirmed:

How many people? How many muskets? How many cannon?
