THE BAINTON BELLWETHER

January 2017

Issue 91

Did you know?

The Anglo-Saxons called January ‘Wulf-monath’ as it was the month hungry wolves came scavenging at people’s doors.

Don’t forget

THE BAINTON BELLES

Ladies Group

held at theVILLAGE HALL

on the second Wednesday of each month between 7pm and 9pm.

Members joined in a Christmas party in the hall on Wednesday, 14th December, all enjoying varied titbits, pastries, cakes and more healthy options, prepared by each member and shared between us all. Mulled wine was provided and Sue Christie tested our Christmas knowledge with a quiz. No prizes, but some intriguing questions. A “Secret Santa” was held and no-one went home disappointed. There was music – Christmas and other – with some dancing with lots of laughter when the handbags were placed at the centre of the floor! Everyone made an effort to come dressed in festive attire, with some that were “lit up” for the occasion.

In January we will be having a general social evening, and everyone is reminded that it is time to pay our annual subscription of £5. Yes – the ANNUAL subscription! This will entitle you to attend as many events as you wish during the year. The subscription covers only the cost of hiring the hall each month, but the modest charge for tea/coffees goes towards any speaker we might have or, as in the case of Christmas, the mulled wine.

We will be discussing a suitable date in February to go 10-pin bowling at Kingswood, so if this is something you would like to participate in, bring your diary.

November saw us starting the countdown for the Christmas celebration season with Val demonstrating the making of a poinsettia Christmas card. Everyone made their own card (some more than one!) and very impressive they were too.

If you would like to join our group, please contact Sue Briggs (217293) for further information.

Come along and give us a try – we are a really friendly and happy band of ladies, young and not so young.

KEEP FIT EXERCISE GROUP

The exercise group runs on Monday mornings between 10.30am and 12.30pm and Thursday afternoons between 4.30pm and 6.30pm

Our sessions will recommence on Thursday 5th January 2017 with some basic Pilates and Zumba to get you moving after the excesses of the holidays, then as usual on Mondays when we will do Zumba and indoor Kurling. All suitable for any age. Come along and join us – you might find you enjoy yourself !
