The 26th Annual Bean Fest and Championship Outhouse Races, Mountain View, Arkansas’ largest Festival will be October 24, 25. The Mountain View Area Artisans Council will host the Artisans’ Market on the Square, featuring hand made fine contemporary art and craft, heritage arts, folk arts, and local handicrafts. The Artisan’s Market will be located on Peabody Street on the east side of the Stone County Court House. Musicians will be performing on the Court House lawn.Bean pots will be cooking on the west side of the square and, of course, the Outhouse Races will be on Saturday. The Mountain View Area Artisans Council includes the Arkansas Craft Guild, the Mountain View Art Guild, the Off the Beaten Path Studio Tour, the Ozark Folk Fiber Guild, and the OzarkFolkCenter.

GUIDELINES FOR THE MARKET:

Because of limited space of no more than 40 booth spaces, this event is open to artists of the Mountain View Area (within approximately 35 miles of Mountain View) and others by special invitation who produce hand made work that meets the following standards:

  1. Entries should be original or traditional designs and made by the artist.
  2. All work displayed for sale must be in the medium/media submitted to and accepted by the Artisan’s Market Committee. All displays will be reviewed by representatives of the Committee throughout the show to ensure compliance with the rules. It is the committee’s right and responsibility to remove work that does not meet the rules of the event. Non-compliance with rules may result in expulsion and/or ineligibility to participate in future shows.
  3. A special children’s section will be provided for groups and artisans who wish to provide craft activities for children. Animal painting and creation, face painting, tie dying t-shirts are possibilities. Registrants should describe their plans on the registration form. Face painting allowed only in the children’s section. Booth fees for children’s activities will be $35.00, the same as all booths in the Market. When registering, please mark booth for “Children’s Section.”
  4. Members of the Arkansas Craft Guild, the Mountain View Art Guild, the Off the Beaten Path Studio Tour, and the Ozark Folk Fiber Guild and craft demonstrators at the OzarkFolkCenter are not required to send pictures of their work with the application. However, these members must complete each item on the application and they are subject to the review of the Committee during the Show.
  5. Artists who are not members of the above groups are required to submit 4 labeled photos, slides, or images on CD (jpeg) of their work with the application. Images on CD’s should be labeled as follows: Last name, image number .jpg (example smith 1 .jpg; smith 2 .jpg). Minimum image size is 4” x 4” – 600 pixel x 600 pixels – resolution at 300 dpi. Write artist’s name and media category on top surface of the CD.
  6. Dates for the Market:
  7. July 30, 2008 – deadline for priority consideration to Mountain View area artisans. After this date, all unassigned booths will be open to participants from across the state.
  8. September 15, 2008 – deadline for registration
  9. October 1, 2008 – Booth assignments and directions will be sent by e-mail
  10. Set up time: Friday, October 24, 7:00 AM – 11:00 AM. All vehicles must be out of area on Friday by Noon.
  11. Show dates/hours:

Friday, October 24, 2008 – 12:00 Nn – 5:00 PM

Saturday, October 25, 2008 – 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

  • Vehicles will be allowed in the area after 4:00 PM on Saturday. Artisans are required to stay until 4:00 PM on Saturday.
  1. Participants without Arkansas tax numbers must pay sales tax at the close of the show. Those with tax numbers should file their taxes on their own form. No individuals or groups are exempt from collecting and paying sales tax.
  2. Overnight security will be provided by the Mountain View Police and the Stone County Sheriff.
  3. Registration form and check (payable to the Mountain View Area Artisans Council) for $35.00 should be remitted to the Mountain View Area Artisans Council, PO Box 1861, Mountain View, Arkansas, 72560, by the above deadline September 15, 2008.The fee for each 10’ x 10’ booth space is $35.00. Make check payable to The Mountain View Area Artisans Council. Checks will be deposited upon acceptance. Because the fee is minimal, no refunds for cancellation will be made.
