The Apprentice Reflection Assignment

We have been watching the Apprentice series throughout the semester, using your reports for each episode, complete the following reflection.
This must be typed and should be between 500-700 words.
Unit 1: The Management Environment (10 points)
a) At the beginning of each episode, Donald offers his advice. In your opinion, what piece of advice was the best and explain your choice.
b) Identify 5 leadership qualities or characteristics that the winner of the Apprentice proved to have throughout the episodes watched, provide examples of where they used these qualities.
c) Choose one of the candidates from the show who had poor leadership qualities or characteristics, identify 3 qualities that made them a poor leader, provide examples of where they failed to show good leadership qualities.
d) Identify one incident in the episodes watched where either team (Protégé or Versacorp) acted in an unethical manner. Be specific in the example you choose and give a detailed description and explanation of why you felt this was an unethical action, behaviour or choice.
Unit 2: Managing a Business (10 points)
a) Identify one incident in the episodes watched where either team (Protégé or Versacorp) created a well planned strategy to accomplish a task. Explain what the decision making process consisted of and whether it was successful. If the team was successful in the task, what parts of the planning process helped in their success? Or, if the team was not successful in the task where did they fail in their planning process?
b) List 5 advantages and disadvantages to using an “Apprentice” style hiring practice for selecting candidates. Do you feel it is a fair process for selecting a potential candidate? Why or why not? Explain.
Unit 3: Managing Change (5 points)
What sources of information does Donald use at the end of each task to measure the group’s performance (Ex. Personal observations, oral reports, statistical reports)? Identify the advantages and disadvantages to using these.

Did you enjoy watching the series? What did you like best? Did you feel concepts from the course were modeled in the show? Would you recommend this activity for future classes? Why or why not?
