Graduating seniors of MarionHigh School with a 3.25 or better cumulative GPA are eligible to apply, except for sons or daughters of any member of the board of directors of the Marion Rotary Club Scholarship Foundation, Inc.

The applicant must complete and return to the Guidance Office an application that includes the following:

¤Application form

¤Cover letter

¤Resume

¤High School Transcript

The cover letter and resume should include, at minimum, the applicant’s name and address; name, address and occupation of applicant’s parent(s) or guardian(s); the applicant’s long-term goals including the College or University the applicant will attend if known; the applicant’s activities and achievements in school, community and church; and the applicant’s work history, if any. Education majors should so indicate on the application. Other information the applicant deems relevant, based upon the selection criteria below, may be included.The application should be on 8 1/2 by 11 inch paper, stapled in the top left corner. Please do not put in a binder.

Each scholarship recipient may use the funds for tuition, room and board, or books at any accredited College, University or Community College (except for the Doelitzsch Family Scholarship which is limited to expenses incurred at JohnA.LoganCollege or Southern Illinois University). Payment of the scholarships will be made to each recipient following proof of completion of the recipient’s first semester of school for the year they are to receive the funds and proof of enrollment for the next semester.

Recipients will be selected by the board of directors of the Marion Rotary Foundation, Inc., based upon the applicant’s achievements and potential. Criterions used in the selection process are as follows:

¤The applicant’s involvement in school activities that improve and benefit the school.

¤The applicant’s curriculum and involvement in other activities, including employment.

¤The applicant’s volunteer activities that benefit the community.

¤The applicant’s character, attitude and conduct.

¤Need is not a criteria, but other scholarships received by the applicant may be considered.

¤The Whitehead scholarship is for Education Majors Only.

¤The Doelitzsch scholarship is for attendance at SIU and JALC.
