Title: Build-A-City Model

Task:
Students will be working on a Build-A-City MODEL.
  • The ALAMO (8th Graders only)
  • Model of a Modern City
  • Hispanic Town
  • Ranch
  • Future City
Students are working on Chapter 8 and these are the objectives for these Chapters:
Spanish 1 Capítulo 8: ¿Qué haces en tu casa?
Objectives
At the end of this chapter you will be able to:
•Tell where you live/describe your city
•Describe your home/part of the house and furniture
•Name household chores/Daily activities
•Compare and contrast the use of outdoor space in a home in Spain and in the United States
Spanish 2 Capítulo 8: ¿Cómo es tu ciudad?
Objectives
At the end of this chapter you will be able to:
•Name and describe the location of places in a community
•Ask for and give directions
•Locate Places of interest in your city
•Describe a Latin American town.
In our culminating performance task, students will work on a 3D Model of any of the options above.
We will conclude our performance task by doing a presentation and a gallery walk. Students will do peer evaluation for creativity, originality, and content.
Directions for Part 1 Beginning
Step 1 / Choose an Option.
1.Work with Groups of 4.
2.Choose an option from above and do a sketch in a piece of paper of your model.
3.Describe your City/Town/Ranch or the ALAMO.
4.Why is important to Make a Model of this city?
5.Some Students might do a town from a family member but all students need to agree to do this city.
6.Getting Ideas/Getting Material/Distribute each task among students in the group.
7.Get Teacher approval for CITY/ALAMO Model.
Resources Step 2 /
  • The project needs to sit on a piece of foam board or cardboard.
  • You may use household items to make your model (Lego’s, craft sticks, sticks, glue, tape, colors, construction paper, etc.)
  • Toys, animals, Cars, Cereal boxes, etc.
  • Research from different MODEL of cities to get ideas and material.
  • Visit Future City Site which is a National Organization that has a National Contest of City Models.

Resources Step 3 / Work to COMPLETE the MODEL in CLASS
  1. Get Materials
  2. Use Chrome-books to research and get ideas from other models.
  3. Work in Groups to complete the TASK
  4. USE CREATIVITY, COLORS, GLUE, etc.
  5. Use your Engineering and Architecture Skills.

FRIDAY February 10, 2017. / This Day we will have presentations in class to show our final product of each MODEL. Each member needs to speak: show and tell what you have in your city model? Why is this city important for your group? Answer questions if there are from other classmates. Leave your model in Class for Gallery Walks.

Content
The content of the model covers the objectives from chapter 8 La Casa/La Ciudad.
Composition/Model
The entire model is 3-dimensional (not flat) and made from a variety of materials. The model is constructed solely by the student and is not a pre-made kit or other structure.
Labeling
All components of the model are labeled either directly on the model or on a diagram of the model. Labels must include at least 20 vocabulary terms that are relevant to the learning goal(s). Labels are written neatly or typed.
Realism
All components of the model are realistic in their appearance as much as possible with regard to shape, color, etc.
Summary/WRITING
The summary contains an explanation of
  • Why you chose to model this city?
  • Why is important to have this building, houses or places in your city?
  • The model is described and the functions of its various parts are explained.
The summary is one-page in length.
