The admissions process for the Pharmacy TechnologyAAS DEGREEProgram is as follows:

  1. If not currently enrolled at CPCC, go to the Student Success Center in the Central High Building, and complete an application to the college or submit an online application. Designate “Pharmacy Technology AAS Degree” (A45580)as the program of interest. If you are a current student, see Admissions to change your program of study.
  1. Request that an official copy of your high school and college transcripts be sent to CPCC Student Records, PO Box 35009, Charlotte, NC 28235
  1. Fill out the “Request for Transfer of High School/College Grade Form” available in the Admissions office on the second floor of Central High or online at .
  1. Schedule and take any necessary assessment tests in Central High 248 (704.330.6886). If you have not had the required English and Math courses you must also take the English and Algebra tests.
  1. Meet with a college counselor or advisor.
  1. All applicants must take the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) Version V at a cost of $55.00.
  1. Admission into the Pharmacy TechnologyAAS DEGREE Program is competitive.Acceptance is determined by the TEAS results (pg. 2) and points system score (pg. 3).
  1. Submit a completed Pharmacy TechnologyAAS DEGREEProgram application and related documentation.

The application and all related documentation should be turned in to the Admissions Specialist in theHealth Careers Building,Room HE 3545.

PLEASE NOTE: In order to participate in clinical education experiences at health care facilities, students will be required to submit proof of immunizations, annual TB test, results of a criminal background check and annual drug screen at their own expense.

Procedure for Taking TEAS Version V.

The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS Test) was developed by Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI) to predict the academic readiness of applicants prior to admission into a healthcare program. The TEAS is a four-part, web-based assessment that includes subtests in Reading, Mathematics, Science, and English language usage. There are 170 questions in total. The test can only be taken once every three months. Total testing time for all four test areas is 3 ½ hours. Scoring is automatic; you will receive your score when you have completed the test.

  • Complete the permission slip for the TEAS Test seen below.
  • Present the permission slip to the Central Campus Cashier’s office in the Central High building and pay the testing fee there. The cost of the TEAS Test is $55.00. A receipt is issued at the time of payment.
  • Attach your payment receipt to the permission slip and take both with you to the testing center when ready to take the test.
  • The TEAS Test is offered in the Central High Building, room 248, on Monday through Thursday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.
  • It is recommended that you complete some coursework prior to taking the TEAS. A study guide is available at
  • Please note: No calculators or dictionaries are allowed during the TEAS test. Use of these will result in disqualification from the test.
  • A copy of your TEAS test results MUST be attached to the application.

Total adjusted scores from your test will be added up, then multiplied by 0.10 to calculate the TEAS Test Points Awarded.

RANKING PROCESS

Applicants to the Pharmacy Technology AAS DEGREE Program are selected on a “best prepared” basis. The point system was implemented as an objective means for evaluating Pharmacy Technology applicants. Applicants will be ranked based upon points earned, and the students with the highest number of points will be selected each year. If two or more students have the identical point count total, then date of completed application submission will be the determining factor. As this is a selective enrollment program, it is in the student’s best interest to achieve as many ranking points as possible. The components of the ranking system include the following:

Points are awarded for specific course grades completed by the deadline. Grade points are valued as follows: A= 3 points, B= 2 points and C= 1 point. Related academic courses are listed below. Only courses completed by the deadline will be used for ranking. Courses must be completed with a “C” or higher. Science courses over five years old will not be considered for points in the ranking.

PHARMACY TECHNOLOGY AAS DEGREE PROGRAM

The Pharmacy TechnologyAAS DEGREEProgram prepares individuals to assist the pharmacist in duties that a technician can legally perform and to function within the boundaries developed by the pharmacist and the employment agency.

Graduates will maintain inventories, patient records, and clerical requirements of third party and regulatory agencies. In addition, graduates will perform all aspects involved with the filling of prescriptions and institutional orders including: interpreting physician’s orders, compounding non-sterile and sterile formulations, packaging, labeling and billing.

Graduates may be employed in hospitals, nursing homes, private and corporate community pharmacies, research laboratories, wholesale drug companies, and pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities. Starting wages earned by graduates are competitive based on pharmacy practice settings.

Students may be eligible to sit for the National Certification Exam currently offered through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) ( North Carolina Board of Pharmacy recognizes graduates with AAS Degrees in Pharmacy Technology as Validating Technicians. Validating Technicians will have an expanded role in pharmacy practice in North Carolina and will be allowed to validate certain stocking and unit-dose packaging functions of other pharmacy technicians in the institutional pharmacy setting.

How do I apply for the Pharmacy Technology AAS degree program?

First you must be a student at CPCC. Refer to the information on page 1.

When are students admitted into the Pharmacy Technology AAS degree program?

A new class of students is admitted in August of every year.

When is the application period?

The application period is January 2 thru April 1. Only applications receivedby the April 1st deadline will be considered forAugust (fall semester) admission.

How many students are admitted?

Fifteen to twenty students are admitted each year.

How long is the waiting list?

There is no waiting list. Entry is based on scores on the TEAS test, the number of additional points gained from being a registered CPhT/Pharmacy Tech. certificate program graduate and related general education courses completed prior to applying. Applicants with the highest number of points will be admitted to the program. Applicants who are not admitted are encouraged to reapply. It is important to keep copies of your application and transcripts so you can resubmit them when you reapply. If you are not accepted for admission, your application will be shredded.

Are there a minimum number of points required for admission?

No, there is no minimum requirement. Applicants with the highest number of points will be admitted to the program. A study guide for the TEAS test is available at The TEAS test must be version V (five).

What prerequisites are required for entry into the program?

There are no coursework prerequisites. You must complete the TEAS Test. Take the TEAS testearly. Do not wait until the application deadline as you may encounter increased volume and possible wait times in the Testing Center.

How do I take the TEAS test?

See page 2 of this application for information and the permission slip. A copy of your TEAS test results must be attached to the application. You will receive the TEAS results immediately after testing.

How do I apply?

  • Complete the Pharmacy Technology AAS degree application, using the check list on page 5 as a guide.
  • Attach all required transcripts, test results, and certifications to the application form. It is the student’s responsibility to provide all necessary documents.
  • Incomplete applications or applications submitted after the stated deadline will not be considered for admission.
