I.Initial Installation

The DDC Wizzard Sales Module application is presently only supported for Windows XP Service Pack 2 installations. The download process must occur using Microsoft Internet Explorer. No other browsers are supported.

NOTE: The DDC Wizzard Sales Module is specific to the user logged in when the installation occurs! Care and planning should be associated with the user log in when the installation first occurs!

Good practice suggests that temporary Internet files should be deleted before hitting the link referred to below. To delete the temporary Internet files either use the “Disc Cleanup” program under All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, or in Explorer hit Tools, Internet Options, Browsing History, Delete Temporary Internet Files (Internet Explorer 6).

Go to install the DDC Wizzard - Sales Module application. This link is case sensitive.

The DDC Wizzard Sales Module uses .NET Framework 2.0 and Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. It would be unusual for the PC to have both of these applications on it.

Case 1: Prerequisites exist on the computer

If your PC has the above mentioned prerequisite software installed, click on the “launch”command. You will see the following dialog box.

Click “Install”. The file for the DDC Wizzard Sales Module is approximately 45Mb and may take some time to download depending on your connection speed. When the installation is complete you will need to input the serial number provided to you by Fulcrum Automation. If you did not directly receive a serial number from Fulcrum Automation contact Fulcrum Automation for a Serial Number via e-mail to .

Once the software is registered the user will need to Accept or Reject the license agreement. If the agreement is rejected, the application will close. Should the license be accepted, the DDC Wizzard Sales Module license will be active fora 30 day evaluation period. The DDC Wizzard Sales Module license will expire in 30 days. Expiration can be avoided by purchasing the software.

Once the decision to purchase has been made, the user will then need to secure an activation code from Fulcrum Automation to enjoy unrestricted use of the DDC Wizzard. See “Activation Instructions” section.

Opening the application for the first time will have to be from the “Start”, “All Programs” Fulcrum Automation” “DDC Wizzard –Sales Module”. Upon first application of the DDC Wizzard Sales Module there will be an immediate warning message noting that there are “No projects in the project table”. This is expected. Wait until after you have printed the supporting material before you “Create” the first project.

The user should execute the “Set default layouts” command located under the Manage drop down. This sets the persisting column settings to “null” and clears unnecessary columns from view for the user.

Case 2: Prerequisites do not exist on the computer

If the PC being used does not have the prerequisite software click on the “Install” button. The following dialog box will open.

Click “Run”. You will then see the following.

Click “Run”.

The installation routine will first check for and/or install the .NET 2.0 Framework. This software is the most likely to previously be on the machine.

The installation routine will then check for and/or install the SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.

Click “Accept”. If the following dialog box does not appear after the completion of the installation of the SQL 2005 Express Edition the PC will need to be restarted. Otherwise the prerequisites have now been installed and the PC is ready for the installation of the DDC Wizzard Sales Module.

Click “Install”.

II.ExampleControl System and supporting files.

The DDC Wizzard Sales Module, in its default installation, is configured with just enough parts, vendors and manufacturers to estimate and engineer a specific example control system that has less than 50 points. There is a Training Video and other printed material that supports only this example control system. The example control system has many points that are impractical, but the points chosen do demonstrate estimating applications that are essential for complete understanding of how control system estimating and engineering can happen within a database. A brief list of those applications is:

  • A single part that is 2 points (use “Other” part type and a “w/xxxxx” part).
  • A single point that requires 2 parts (use accessoriesin the Engineer DW UI if a part from the parts table or no action if the accessory part is from the schedules).
  • Understanding of cost for scheduled parts; AFMS, Dampers, Damper Actuators, WFMS or Valves (cost are only calculated for part on the schedules).
  • Typical Systems (Solution Qty is greater than 1 and designations).
  • Typical points (Total part qty is greater than 1 without designations).

The Support page that can be found at provides the following files as downloads.

One of the more instructive supporting files is the Training Video. We advise that for best results and a deeper understanding of the application, the user should expect to spend 2 hours on the video and perhaps another 2 hours gaining more experience with DDC Wizzard Sales Module.

IIITraining Video

While training and viewing the video for the first time you will need some printed material – Figure 1, & AHU, CHP, HP, CP and TU Worksheets should be printed out.

Unzip the video index and folder of video clips to a known location. We suggest the desktop since it will be referred to often while training on the Wizzard. The Sales Module Help Video is provided as a training tool. It is conceived to be viewed alongside the DDC Wizzard Sales Module application while taking advantage of the Extended Desktop feature available in most Windows based laptop PC’s with an external monitor connected.

Initiating the Extended Desktop:The Extended Desktop feature is located under the ‘Display Properties’ found by right clicking an icon free area of the PC Desktop. Under ‘Display Properties’ click the tab ‘Settings’, then click the rectangular display labeled ‘2’, and then check the ‘Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor’ check box. If a second monitor is connected to the PC the desktop will now extend onto this monitor. Grabbing and dragging either monitor ‘1’ or ‘2’ allows the user to position the monitors relative to one another. Once both monitors are enabled, the DDC Wizzard Sales Module Help Video can be viewed on one monitor while the DDC Wizzard Sales Module application is used on the other. The user will then have the ability to view a video segment on one monitor while executing the same commands seen in the video in the application on the second monitor.

IVActivation Instructions

After the license has been purchased the user can “Activate Now” the license at the initial screen. The user will see the activation screen. Input the activation code provided by Fulcrum Automation to activate the DDC Wizzard Sales Module.

VInstallation Notes and Known Issues

Please note the following for DDC Wizzard Sales Module installation:

You need to have Administrator rights to install SQL Server 2005 Express Edition on your computer.

You need to have a default instance of SQL Server 2005 Express Edition on your computer. If you have any other editions of SQL Server, DDCWizzard will install, however, it will not start properly. You will need to contact Fulcrum Automation at for a custom-configured version of DDC Wizzard.

If you do not have a default named server of SQL Server 2005 installed on your computer, the setup program will install all the necessary files on your computer and make the necessary connections for it to work.

Uninstalling the application will not uninstall .NET Framework, or SQL Server Express 2005. These need to be uninstalled using the Add / Remove Programs area in the Control Panel.

This application is designed to work with a minimum screen resolution of 1024x768. Lower resolutions are still workable, but higher resolutions will be desirable.

Following are known installation issuesand remedies.

In this case SQL 2005 Express Edition has been previously installed and deleted from the PC. The installation is hoping to take advantage of previously downloaded files. This will not work with the Sales Module. The user will need to use Explorer to navigate to the Users local Temp folder and delete the offending folder. In the case above the user is ‘bradleys’ and the problem folder is ‘VSD126.tmp’. Obviously the user will be different and the folder name will need to be recorded from the error message. This error may also require that the temporary files be deleted using “Disc Cleanup” program under All Programs, Accessories, System Tools.

If you uninstall DDCWizzard, or SQL Server 2005 from your computer, please re-boot before attempting a new installation.

If you receive an “Access Denied” error after uninstalling and attempting to re-install, please contact Fulcrum Automation at . This error means that the previous version of the software was not properly uninstalled and cleaned from your computer, and you will need to remove the files manually. Since installation folders are different for each application, Fulcrum staff will need to walk you through the manual process to delete the existing files.
