Title: Frankenstein

Author: Mary Shelley

Word count: 1483

This book is a science fiction. This story is about Victor Frankenstein. Victor was born in Naples and lived in Geneva. Victor was a serious person with a very busy mind. He wanted to learn everything and anything. As he grew older, he felt deeper and deeper into his studies. He spent far too much time with his nose buried in dusty old books. The words of scientists became his life. One day, he discovered he could give life to lifeless matter. He tried to build a perfect man out of dead body parts and brings him to life. He had spent two years building this creature. However, when he had finished, his heart filled with horror and disgust. The monster’s limbs were the right size, but his watery, pale eyes were awful. His yellow-looking skin barely covered his muscles and veins. His hair was black, even flowing, and his teeth were white and pearly—but his lips were thin and black. Soon, Victor found that this was a serious mistake, he created a monster. So, he began to kill the monster. The monster wanted to hurt Victor, for giving him that awful, awful life. He took away everything Victor loved. He killed Victor’s wife and his brother. They had many conflicts. However, when Victor died, he was crying over the dead body of Victor. He had nothing more to live for, so he went off to die.

I think this story is quite good. The title of this book is attractive, it attracts me to read it. I like this book very much. It is meaningful and exciting. After I have read this book, I have learned a lot of things. Although the monster killed Victor’s wife and his brother, I do not hate him. In fact, I sympathize with him. He did not mean to kill Victor’s brother, William. He just held his hand over William’s mouth so he would be quiet. This was just an accident. I think he was poor and mistaken.Everyone hated him wherever he went. He was miserable. People were shocked and scared of him. They screamed and ran away at the sight of him. Some even hit him with sticks and stones because they were so afraid. There was nothing he could do except to run away and hide. No one in the world would ever accept him because he looked awful. It didn’t matter that he could read or write. It didn’t matter that he could think or talk. People would always be afraid of him. I think he had dual personality—good and evil, but due to the revulsion and discrimination, so that he becomes evil to do all sorts of bad things. I think people should look into his heart and see the real him, and do not just look at his awful face.

In the real world, people also hate ugly people. First impression has a strong effect, people may think that ugly people are not good. I think we should not just focus on the appearance; we have to focus on the connotation and moral character. If a person does not have connotation, even if he or she is handsome or beautiful, no one would like him or her.

Also, I think the monster is poor, as he is lonely. He wants Frankenstein to create a friend for him.Someone who is just like him and would accept him.Someone spends his days with. Someone he could talk to during the long, cold nights. He missed having friends more than anything else in the world. I understand his feelings and thoughts. If I were him, I would also feel lonely and eager to have a friend to accompany me. There is a saying in the book makes me impressed,” I was not the happiest man in the world, but at least I had a good friend by my side.” I agree with this saying. We may not be the happiest person in the world, but we have friends. Friends are people who are willing to make us happy and forget the unpleasant life. Friends accept who we are. Therefore, I think friends are important for us. And I can understand why the monster longed to have a friend.

However, I sympathize with the monster, but I do not agree with his behavior. I think that he cannot murder. I think he should talk to Victor friendly, he should not retaliate to Victor and kill his family. I have learned that life is precious, we should cherish life. Murder or violence is not a good solution, only peace and dialogue can solve problems. Even if a person does something wrong, we do not have the power to dominate his life. We should believe the law, believe that the law is fair and impartial. And we should believe that only the law can sanction offenders. We should believe that everyone has the right to live. We are not the god or the law, we have no powers deprived of their right to live.

After reading this book, I also understand that family and friends are important to us. Victor has spent far too long in his laboratory with his nose buried in books and experiments. All he could see was his work. Nothing could tear him away, not even the thought of his friends and family. Not even the thought of his beautifulfiancée, Elizabeth. After spending so many months locked away in his laboratory, he had forgotten the simple joys of friendship and affection. Regardless how busy our work or studies are, we should not ignore the affection and friendship. Since our family and friends will be upset with us. Hence, we need to be attentive to maintain family ties and friendship. Otherwise, we regret in the future.

Furthermore, I dislike Victor but also sympathize with him. I dislike him as he was the cause of all of those troubles, not because he actually did them, but because he created the monster. I sympathize with him as the monster took away everything and everyone he loved, his wife, his brother and his friend. There was a great sadness in his eyes, as if he carried all the weight of the world on his shoulders. I think he had paid a heavy price for his wrongdoing, he lost his loves. Although I dislike him, I appreciate his devotion to the dream. Something inside of him pushed him forward, and nothing will stop him until he had succeeded. I appreciate his dedication and not think less of him. I understand that having interest in work is a good thing, but if the work has to give up the love of friendship and the affection to others, it is not a good thing. I think we should not have blind dedication. We have to consider whether it will pose a threat to others. At the appropriate time, we need to give up.

I like Victor’s mother, Caroline, very much. In spite of her hard life, she had remained kind and tender-hearted. She often helped out with poor families. She wanted to give back to the world, helping others just as her father had helped her. She spent a lot of time helping the poor families. She brought food and clothes, spent time with the children, and had a lovely time. She adopted a girl who was called Elizabeth. The beautiful Elizabeth came to live as a part of Victor’s family and became Victor’s fiancée. I am touched by Caroline’s actions. Even Caroline could help others, why can we not? As long as we are willing to help others, we will feel happy. And others will willingly help us.

After the sudden death of Victor’s mother, Victor and his family missed her every single day. However, Victor’s father said to Victor that his life should not stop just because he was sad. There is something more important than his grief. I understand that things are impermanence. We cannot predict the future. All we can do is to enjoy our life. I understand that we cannot sink in grief forever. The sad truth is that life goes on. We have to accept the reality and keep doing well. We should not let family and friends worry about us.

I think that the protagonists are poor people. They are ultimately alone and have no good ending. But these are their choice, they cannot complain. I learned that we need to bear responsibility and bear the consequences for our choices. In fact, options are in our hands. If we have chosen, we should not complain. Whatever the outcome may be, we shouldn be satisfied and proud. Because we have made efforts and tried our best.

After reading this book, I have learned a lot. I think this book is educational and I have a lot of fun in this book. I will recommend this book to my friends.
