Program Overview

The Antioch Child Care program is provided for Antioch Elementary school students in Kindergarten—5th grade, who have mastered independent self-help skills (eating, toileting , etc.). Students must be enrolled at Antioch Elementary School in order to participate in this program. The purpose of the program is to provide a safe, nurturing environment for those students who are required to spend an extended part of their day away from home. We provide an activity filled environment for the children. We also encourage homework and an educational atmosphere.

HOURS OF OPERATION

The before school program will operate from 6:00 A.M. to 8:45 A.M. Monday through Friday.

The after school program will operate from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. Monday through Friday.

If a child is picked up after 6:00 P.M. parents will be charged a $10.00 late fee for every 5 minutes they are late, must be paid in cash at time of pick-up. We will use the time from time clock to determine the late fee. We suggest you set your watch to the time clock, since that is what will determine if you are late. This fee must be paid before your child may return to Child Care. If you are more than 15 minutes late we will begin calling people on your emergency contact list.

We realize that there may be an isolated circumstance beyond the control of the parent, in which case the late fee may be waived at the discretion of the Child Care director. If you know you are going to be late, please call, 683-7599.

SIGN-IN PROCEDURES

When dropping off your children in the morning you must come in and enter child’s ID code. If your child is going to eat breakfast please instruct them to go to breakfast when an instructor asks for breakfast children.

SIGN-OUT PROCEDURES

We know this procedure could be inconvenient, but we stress safety and security over convenience—for everyone’s sake. Legally, parents or previously authorized persons must clock out each child by using that child’s ID code number. At Antioch Child Care, parents will be expected to use their child’s ID code when clocking their child in or out from Child Care. Remember if you are running late the first thing you should do is clock your child out since it will be used to determine the late fee.

Children will not be released to persons not listed on the enrollment form without written authorization signed and dated by the custodial parent and delivered to the Child Care director. Therefore, when listing persons eligible to pick-up your child, please be comprehensive. The Child Care workers may require a picture ID when someone they are unfamiliar with is picking up your child.

Telephone calls will only be accepted when we have written authorization and verification of the caller.

ILLNESSES AND EMERGENCIES

Children who are ill (runny nose, contagious cough, red throat, unexplained rashes, swollen glands, head or stomach ache) or who have had a fever within the past twenty-four hours should not attend the Child Care program. When a child becomes ill or is injured at the Antioch Child Care program, the parent will be notified immediately and is expected to pick him/her up immediately.

In the case of an emergency as determined by the Child Care staff, the paramedics will be called and the parent will be notified immediately. Parents will be responsible for all costs incurred in such emergencies.

Parents are responsible for updating any pertinent changes in address, phone numbers or health information concerning their child as soon as changes occur.

Severe Disruptive Behavior

Fighting, swearing, biting, and direct disobedience

If any of these actions occur the parent will be called and the child will automatically be sent home. The parent is required to pick up the child within 30 minutes of the time they are called. After three occurrences the child will be withdrawn from Antioch Child Care.

The decision of the Child Care director is FINAL in all issues of Child Care rule infractions.

Discipline Policies

  1. A minor infraction of the rules will result in a verbal warning for the first offense. Your child will be reminded of that rule and asked not to break it again. He or she will also be reminded that if that rule is broken again, the consequence will be a Time Out 1 (5, 10 or 15 minutes depending on age).
  2. A second infraction of the same rule will result in a Time Out 1. At the end of this time, your child will be asked to repeat orally the rule that was broken and again reminded to follow it. Your child may be in time out three times in one morning or afternoon before the director will intervene and the parent will be called.
  3. Time Out 2 is used if the rule is broken on a daily basis. The first step of this process involves speaking with the parent to inform them of the behavior problem. The child will be expected to be involved in the conversation, and from this parent, child and director will decide what the next consequence will be if the behavior continues. If we reach this stage, the parent will have already been well informed of the situation, and Child Care personnel will then begin to document future behavior problems involving the child.
  4. Time Out 3 involves the taking away of certain privileges in our Child Care Program. At this point, the parent will be asked to sign a document stating that they are aware that the child is on probation and that his/her behavior must improve or the child will be expelled from the program.

These rules are necessary to ensure the safety and well being of the children. Parents and staff working together will help make the Antioch Child Care Program fun and enjoyable for all.

I, ______along with my child, ______have both read and discussed the rules and disciplinary procedures in the Antioch Elementary Child Care Program Handbook. We both understand the rules and disciplinary actions that will be taken as outlined in this handbook.
